Am I late with this incredible story about a dog being reunited with its owner after living in the wild for 53 days after surviving a horrible car crash in the Nevada desert last December?
A single-vehicle crash so horrific that the husband eventually died, the wife suffered critical injuries (a concussion, broken ribs, a shattered wrist and two punctured lungs), and their other Sheltie dog died during the wreck.
Yet, the 4-year-old Shetland sheepdog, Dooley, survived and fled the scene, lost over 20 lbs. due to eating only roadkill and drinking scattered water sources. But the search was canceled before it began after the Jan. 6 discovery of what appeared to be the dog's remains along the interstate. The same day, her husband died.
Ugh, this is just one of those stories that rips at your heart but then puts a smiling glow upon your face.
