Playing an old elton john song by this title... "gotta get a meal ticket to survive" goes thee chorus.

In these tough economic times, all sorts of people need a meal ticket, and might be prepared to do almost anything to survive...

could be a useful quick jumping off point into a reluctance type story with almost any flavour...

protagonist whose unemployment has run out places an ad on the internet...

I could see such a story taking any number of directions, with either a male of female protagonist. Interesting! I really like the idea!

So, how about a single woman, unemployed and out of unemployment insurance. She's less than a month away from being in the street and refuses to take the charity of her boyfriend.

So, she puts an ad on Craig's List in the services section and waits for some "work". Her clients might be looking for anything from a "quickie" to a long term D/s relationship.

Or, should I turn it around and write about a guy in a similar predicament?

I hear that's how human trafficking starts.

Just for lulz, you should research that.

It happens. I had a "friend" when I was working in Ireland who was available for the price of a good meal.
