This morning we dropped the car off in the shop to have some much needed work done to it. Because the shop is right down the road we walked home in the early morning coolness.
This afternoon shortly after noon we received a call from work. They needed us to head in and slap our signitures on some papers so the hospital could stay legal. They weren't taking no for an answer. We decided the hell with it and hopped the bike.
Boots, Jeans, Jackets, Gloves, Helmets and Sunglasses were the outfit of the day. (My wife has a mesh jacket while I have to suffer along with a heavy denim jacket with a thick leather vest over it.) 22 miles of stop and go traffic later we pull into the parking garage. We're soaked with sweat and I'm more than a bit rank. (I get pungent rather quickly in the heat. Blame it on my genetics and my diet.)
We signed the papers as my bosses nose hairs signed. I kept a foot on my jacket to keep it from wandering off and exploring the place. (Yes I need to wash it.)
The ride home was even more fun. Stop and go the entire 22 miles. No breaks for us. We were sitting on the bike over the air cooled engine in heavy traffic for most of the ride home. The people around us just looked at us from the comfort of their Air Conditioning and shook their heads as they sipped their Iced Lattes. We sweat.
Finally we arrived home. We peeled out of our jackets even before we dug the wifes purse and the house keys out of the Cargo Box. There were beads of water on the outside of my vest. I had sweat through the Heavy Denim Jacket as well as the heavy leather of the vest. We went inside.
I hung up our gear as the wife headed for the shower to cool off. I glanced at the thermometer. 95° with 90% humidity. We're talking a heat index of 147°F. Add to that the heat from the engine and no wonder it was a bit uncomfortable.
A cold shower and a couple of gallons of iced water later we were feeling better. We still managed to have fun though.
