A little about me.........And asking for input..........Are you an organ donor?......

That's a great story of suvival, Wizard. It bring home to me how between us, if we co-operate one and one is much more than two. A lot of generous people here.

Add me to your list too...I'm a donor as well.
Its on my D/L, I'll donate everything...even my eyes. (its an option here in NZ, you can donate your kidneys, all your internal organs, or the whole lot including the eyes.)

Yes, I am. It's on my drivers license. My family and physician are aware of it as well. I made the decision about 13 years ago when my aunt had a heart transplant.

I'm relatively sure it will be labeled Abby Normal!

Just couldn't resist! My bad.

RhumbRunner:D :p [/B]

Which is why I'm donating it. They like to recieve normal brains as well as those with a chemical imbalance and those with diseases like MS.

Oh yes, driver's license and a living will. And if you know anyone that isn't a donor, email him a copy of Wizard's thread. If that doesn't make you think, then something's wrong.

Hang in there Wiz, we all care for you.

Another donor here, organ and body.

I'm protecting my own interests as I only have one kidney left!

I hear ya..................But now I have 4 in me..............Yep 4.....

the olds ones in back and each new one was placed in the front side of my belly ...............

Only one works so I'm right with ya............;)

It is really great to see so many that care and take the time to do this.................I too was a donor before this happened.....

Now they wouldn't take any of my organ because of the anti rejection drug that is in my body.

I always want to donate but not for medical research but now I do ......How else would we learn about this stuff?...........
The only thing now is to donate to transplant medical research.......Let them learn what long term effects are from the drugs...........I wear bi focals now as a result of long term drug use and many things aren't even found out yet........

Again I wanted to thank everyone for there thoughts on this........

I just felt like asking and sharing this with others for there take on it.................

;)

One is plenty. My surgeon told me I could survive on one eighth of one kidney, so we are both 87.5% above the line, thank goodness!

Yes I'm an organ donor. Its on my drivers licence (the whole kit and kaboodle) I also carry a kidney donor card from the kidney foundation with me at all times.

I watched a dear friend of mine die while waiting for a new kidney. If my organs could help just one person I'm sure that I would rest in peace.

Yes I am. It is on my Drivers Liscense.

:)

My entire family knows that I want to be an organ donor (and everything that can't be donated is to be given to science to further research) once I have died but it is not on my license. Pennsylvania has a little bit of a history with pulling the plug on people in comas to save someone famous. Call me crazy but I don't think I should have to die so someone like Julia Roberts can continue to make movies. Now if it was Ghandi or Mother Theresa, that would be different, I'd probably hook them up with a lung or two, even if I wasn't in a coma.

I am glad that things worked out for you Wizard. :)
Sounds like you had a rough time there.

Yes, I am a donor. On my drivers license, family all know.
Like Draco they can use whatever they need.
And the rest can go for medical students to learn on if
they want to. It all helps. :rose:

Yup. I mean, why not? It's not like I'm gonna be having any use for them if I'm gone......

I may donate a kidney later on in life.....normally, I know, I should do it now.....but it's kinda awkward......I need a summer job.

Ok anyone have a thought on being aloud to sell one of there own organs for cash, or taking a non life threatning organ like one kidney from a death row inmate?................... I mean there never going to get out and in the end they will of some use?..........

I know this is radical but just looking for a thought.............

Another donor here too! I'd be happy to pass on anything I can to help others when I no longer need them. Fortunately, my family knows this and they are donors as well, so hopefully no nasty medical/legal battles if the time were to ever come.

It is a tragedy how many people die daily waiting for organs. If donation was a more common thing, this wouldn't happen! Learning the statistics in nursing school was staggering. The fact that many of those deaths were preventable was just saddening.

I'm sure if people could sell their organs for money, there wouldn't be as much of a shortage. But then we'd have to look at the quality of the organs which came from that. Kinda like plasma. You don't get that much money for it, but have you seen some of the people who donate that for the money? I don't mean the starving average college student or whatnot, but the people you're surprised they accept the blood from... *shiver*

Non-consent harvesting is a hard issue. Part of me thinks "Yep, they forfeit all rights when they commit a crime bad enough to get put on death row". That's the biggest part. But the other part realizes there's no way in hell that would ever happen, and thinks that's good too. Oooh, that really is a tricky one....

Oh, and by the by...I am very glad all has gone well for you so far in this long medical journey you've taken! :)

doner generations

I've had my doner notification on my driver's license for as far back as I can remember. I was incredibly proud when my 16 year old showed me his driver's license with the doner notification. What a gift to give...
