A Lesson in Quantum Physics (Need 1 Test Subject + Evil Japanese Male)

This is going to be a GM-led RPG about an experiment at a college physics laboratory that goes...well, how you interpret the outcome depends on your point of view.

If you were a shareholder of the Japanese corporation that is underwriting the research, the results of the Sumitachi Field, you would probably be excited at the potential profits for the company.

If you were on the shadowy board of directors, especially the inner circle composed of Shinto adherents who rue the outcome of World War II and think Japan should have won, you would be especially thrilled.

On the other hand, if you were one of the test subjects who answered the ad, thinking you were only going to be exposed to low-level magnetic radiation...let's just say the results are mind-blowing. You could write a book about the experience and get rich. If you survive, that is. And if you can ever get back home...

Character openings are pretty much any type/occupation of character (the test subjects were not limited to college students). Your character can be "good" or "evil" or anything in-between. A drug-dealer would be as acceptable as a kindergarten teacher. The following characters will be played by me:

Hideo Tasaki: Representative of the White Lotus Group, the corporation that sponsored the experiment. Male, Japanese, 42 years old.

Professor Johanssen: Physics professor, female, Caucasian, 38 years old.

Sally Segele: Teaching assistant, female, Caucasian, 25 years old.

Mmmhmmmm... color me interested. But, I would need some more info to be able to decide for the first two possibilities (shareholder or director).

Also, I am guessing a shareholder would be above a director in rank, right? Also, if one were to be a director, would that character be in charge of the experiment? Or would you "take command" on that?

Technically a shareholder in simply one who owns shares of a company stock, not necessarily enough shares to have any real power. Even if I owned 10,000 shares of Microsoft, Bill Gates isn't going to be inviting me over for tea.

But in the case of your character, I'd make him/her a primary shareholder--i.e., an owner. Note that this character would almost certainly have an ethos and world view most would consider "evil." Ditto for the director of the experiment, since they're all in on the conspiracy.

I would PM you details of the experiment (so if you did take the shareholder/owner or director position, you would get quite a few spoilers though even you wouldn't know exactly how things would turn out in the end).

Mmmmmmmhhmmmm...

Now I am not sure wether I should be a director or a test subject... count me as a test subject for now, and if you get another test subject/s I will be a director instead. Is this Ok?

This sounds interesting but I have to ask what sort of effects will the experiment have on the test subjects? And what sort of incentive are the test subjects given in the first place to get them to volunteer?

The experiment purportedly involves studying the effects of magnetism on electrolyte levels in the blood. Rather routine. Each test subject is paid $50 and given a catered lunch for having a blood sample taken, being exposed for twenty minutes to magnetism slightly higher than what your average CT scan machine generates, and then giving another blood sample. All-told, the experiment takes around 45 minutes.

Or so the test subjects were told...

EDIT: The experiment will not modify the subjects themselves (change gender, cause mutation/super powers, grow a second head, etc.) in any way.

Ok, I'll be going for an Otaku girl who needs those 50$ (going against all her paranoia result of watching too much anime :p ).

So, test subject.

This is where I become confused. You said in the first post that the results were mind blowing for the subjects...If the testing doesn't change them how would they know the test wasn't exactly what they thought it was?

Excellent question. The answer is that they are going to suddenly find themselves in a different world, a different reality. They will figure out rather quickly that the experiment wasn't just a glorified CT scan.

Ooooo, now THAT is an interesting idea!

I'd love to play the part of a test subject.

Cool. Go ahead and write up a character (just vitals and a couple paragraphs of description.)

Name: Evan "Eva" Parrish
Age: 19
Appearance: A rather plain-looking girl, nothing remarkable but for her nerdy glasses. She looks prettier without them... but she needs them. Long, raven-black hair frames her square-brimmed glasses, kept in a pony-tail. She's a bit short, and of a frail, light physique.

She usually wears a plaited dark green skirt, a blouse, and a white coat, quite like that from a lab (apparently inspired by some obscure anime character she can't quite remember).

Background: Fairly independent, but still somewhat naive, Evan was raised by parents that spent most of their time out of home. Which means she was raised by the TV and any other pastime she could find. She quickly took a liking to anime and manga, and gleefully took the "Eva" nickname from the anime Evangelion, because she simply hated the choice her parents took for her name (they forgot she was a girl a few minutes before giving her her name, and by the time they noticed it was too late, this obviously embarrasses her).

Eva has a close circle of friends in University, most of them Otaku. Despite the embarrassment that comes with certain extreme behaviours, she has good relations with most of them.

Personality: Pretty shy, Evan prefers to go by her nickname, which bolsters her self-confidence somewhat. Besides that, she is pretty enthusiastic about anime and manga, but not really good at studying, which marks her as a kind of nerd. She is helpful, though, because her memory is pretty good when she really needs it.

Reason for joining the Experiment: $50 could help her get that manga compilation she's always wanted...

Hopefully she's Ok...

Being the old fart that I am, I had to Wiki "Otaku." :D

She'll do fine.

Name: Andrea "Andie" Waters
Age: 20
Height: 5'6
Build: Andie is quite athletic and it shows in her tight little body. She had firm c-cup breasts, a flat stomach, a tight ass that fills out jeans almost perfectly and trim legs that look great in a skirt and heels.
Hair: A rich sable color with naturally red highlights that look almost like streaks of blood during the summer when her hair is lightened by the sun.
Eyes: A deep blue-grey similiar to summer stormclouds.

Background: Andie came from a family that was comfortable but not rich by any means. Her parents worked hard to make sure that all the bills were paid and there was always food on the table and had passed on their work ethic to their daughter who was now a pre-med student. Andie studies hard during the week and plays harder on the weekends whether she's out doing something physical during the day or partying at night.

Reason for applying to the project: Andie had partied just a bit too hard the precious weekend and accidently spent her grocery money as well as her "going out" money and now needs cash to put some food in her cupboards and doesn't want to call and beg her parents because it would mean having to tell them she'd screwed up.

Cool.

I'll wait until we have one more test subject and, hopefully, one of the Japanese who are running the show.

I could be a test subject if you need one. As long as there are no physics questions. :p Where does this take place? Japan? USA? At a university?

At a university in Southern California, near Los Angeles.

So if I'm reading this right you need one more and to do what exactly?

One more, preferably the "evil" Japanese who is bankrolling the experiment. If I don't get one in the next day or so, I'll likely start anyway and play him myself.

Well I'll do it, if you already have a character, but if not I'll step back to enjoy the show. Since I've seen your roles in some other threads and its quite enjoyable and I'd rather not replace you Anachron

Nope, I don't have anyone to play the evil Japanese. He's yours if you want him. He's an elite scientist, a Shintoist who believes Japanese are the master race.

No you misunderstood what I meant before, I was saying I'd take it if you had no roles. I was only thinking that because I misread what you said at the first post, and I see you already have at least three characters to keep up with.

So I'll be fine with taking this role, I think I can play it, but I'd like you to name the character since you are the creator of the bulk of the story I figure this piece won't hurt.

oh good then you will be starting sometime soon.. I look forward to reading it
