I've recently become fascinated by artificial intelligence and find the prospect of an AI girlfriend particularly intriguing. Does anyone have any experience of this? There are literally dozens of websites that claim you can create an AI girlfriend for free but, of course, they're not really free at all! Or if they are, the functionality is so limited that it's not worth bothering. Are there any genuine free sites out there? I don't really want to have to pay and I'm not sure that it'd be worth it anyway!

How could it be worth bothering with when there's no other there? No being who has their own opinions and feelings that you could be interested in? Your idea is an early step on the descent of humanity into a solipsistic sludge.

You're right on one level but I was more interested in how the thing actually worked and how it interacted with you. But, no, it could never replace a real woman!

Interesting that this thread didn't get more traction. I wonder if that means few people have tried it? Or they're just not conversationalists.

I have to admit the idea of trying one to see if AI can contribute to a conversation showing interest as a real woman would be an interesting experiment. I would not know where to start.

It might be that it's more popular in the Far East. I seem to remember reading that in one country (I can't remember whether it was China or Japan), young men prefer AI girlfriends because they're less hassle than the real thing! And even young women prefer AI boyfriends because they're better at listening than the real thing and the women can unload all their emotional baggage on them. This could be storing up long term trouble though. If a whole generation adopt AI partners rather than the real thing then we will eventually run out of people...

I beleive Japan is not too far from this. Given a low birth rate and aging/ shrinking population with young people appearing more interested in technology than each other. Can't imagine why, tech doesn't keep us warm at night.
