False complaints of sexual abuse in the military are rising at a faster rate than overall reports of sexual assault, a trend that could harm combat readiness, analysts say.

Virtually all media attention on a Pentagon report last week focused on an increase in service members’ claims of sexual abuse in an anonymous survey, but unmentioned were statistics showing that a significant percentage of such actually investigated cases were baseless.

From 2009 to 2012, the number of sexual abuse reports rose from 3,244 to 3,374 — a 4 percent increase.

During the same period, the number of what the Pentagon calls “unfounded allegations” based on completed investigations of those reports rose from 331 to 444 — a 35 percent increase.

Not to mention how fucking wrong it is...simple accusations have ruined peoples lives on so many levels. Even though they were proven innocent, just the accusation can incur massive damage to someones world both professionally and personally. It's like being accused of murder or being a kiddy fucker serious shit....land a case with that and even if you're acquitted.

But you know life crushing sexual assault charges...pfft....that's totally secondary to that damage done by the "Girl who cried wolf" effect actual rape victims might have to deal with in the future. just over 20 years the Canadian armed forces had an equally astounding in the number of rape accusations.. so some studies were put to it to figure out why this was happening

what they discovered was that these increase inc harges coincided with... drum roll please.. gay and lesbians being allowed to openly serve in the military

no longer could a guy get raped in the shower and then get threatened with being gay to ensure his silence... you wanted to rape a chick, just tell her you're going to out her as a lesbian.. that will keep her mouth shut

up till this point, liking the same sex would ruin your career.. even if you were straight, you could get drummed out .. because how the fuck do you prove your sexuality...so no one said a god damned word

but with this stigma and archaic laws being drummed out.. people could now suddenly come forward

and this continued for about 4 years.. then something happened... military personnel began to get that you cant get away with rape.. and the stats dropped dramaitically.. to record lows in fact.. and have remained so

and PS.. not all " false allegations" are actually false.. take Ceelo for example.. took a girl home, drugged her up.. next morning came, she couldnt recall anything.. pressed charges.. courts said she couldnt prove that the sex wasnt consensual... he was declared not guilty
