I can't speak for any other men but my attraction is based on my desire for women in positions of authority, the earliest of whom was obviously my mother. There's also the comforting appeal of a big pair of breasts. The juxtaposition of comfort, security, and being under someones control, is a place I don't think I could escape from even if I wanted to.

Personally to me, size just doesn't matter, it's about the person as a whole.
If you look tall skinny and stunningly beautiful, but you have an ugly heart and soul, you are not a beautiful person.
If you have a kind loving heart and soul, but not tall skinny or what ever it doesn't matter you are or could be a beautiful person.
Ask me how I know, on second thoughts no don't, I am in a good mood, don't want to spoil it. lol.

I might add that personality is a big factor in attraction. I tend to find a woman with those larger curves tend to be more sure of themselves and less caring about having to maintain the image people but out there.
A skinny woman with good curves is still great but they tend to worry about those extra couple pounds, the right brand name clothes, being in the right clic so they can maintain their status as sexy and drop dead gorgeous.
But give me the woman who will enjoy that large steak with dinner, and that chocolate dessert without the fear of having to make up for it later. A woman with those curves that I can just grab hold of and let her know just how good she feels as I explore her body, and when she needs something a little rougher, I'm not afraid I might hurt her as much.
And their personality tends to be a bit more bubbly, and open, and inviting in that, "oh you want to play" kind of way.

The question is worded vaguely enough that I'm not completely sure of what exactly you mean. The variables being what you mean by 'large', and what you're implying when you're saying 'men'.
If we're talking about what most of us would consider to be fat, and implying that men in general are into that, then you're simply wrong, and I don't know where that idea would come from. There are men that find a lot of appeal to that, but it's hardly a majority, even if some of those men seem to be highly vocal about it. This vocal nature might be due to a perception that their interest in fat women is more socially acceptable, as compared to someone with an interest in more petite women, or there could be other reasons.
If you're asking why any man would be interested in fat women, there could be any number of reasons, but most likely they were just raised in an environment with larger women, and that's the model that they were left with. But not necessarily. There's no measuring stick to determine anyone's attractions or fetishes, we're all a little different. Also note that a man being with an overweight woman does not equate to him specifically liking that quality, he could simply like her, and the weight thing isn't an issue for him.
Now of course, like I said, what a person means by 'large' can have significant variance. I am assuming we're talking about general body weight/fat content, rather than something like just large breasts or being really tall, but even in that, the descriptor is vague. There are men who state an interest in 'thick' women, but they are not necessarily referring to what most would call fat, but simply women who have a lot of curves - larger bust, hips, etc - while still maintaining some manner of proportional hip-to-waist ratio. And even in men who do have an interest in fat women do not necessarily like severely obese women.
There is often some discrepancy in what the average man is interested in, versus what the average woman assumes the average man wants. Women tend to guess that men will want women who are thinner than they actually do, just as men tend to assume women are interested in more muscular men than they actually are.
