Endorphins are released to numb the pain from the paddling, which can numb the pain from other things. Ergo- this makes sense.

I believe in the the therapeutic properties of pain. It makes perfect sense to me. Probably why so many depressed people cut.

I've never been a cutter, but when I've been very depressed I've scratched myself hard enough to make myself bleed.
