In my day job as library/lunch lady, I am the "official" photographer and chronicler of all things. I take pictures at all the events and candids throughout the year. I make sure I take at least two good pictures of every child in school as well as all the staff. At the end of the school year, I burn copies of the best ones onto a disc and give them to all the teachers and staff members. The kids can buy them for a dollar or a blank disc. On the few days of school, the teachers play their copies on the classroom white boards so the kids can watch them.

I use two different picture programs when dealing with large folders of pictures; one from my camera for all the editing, mostly red-eye correction and captioning, I do and then storing them in the library of the computer which seems to be the only one the "burn disc" feature seems to recognize. Usually this isn't a problem because the two programs are quite compatible, but not tonight.

Tonight, when I have almost one thousand photographs to sort through, run through a movie maker program and then burn off a dozen DVDs, the two programs have decided to get into a snit and are not talking to each other. I think I have a work-around figured out so I can get the five hundred fifty good pictures culled and into the next program.

I've selected all my photos, chosen the dazzling special effects {spin transition AND credits} and miracle of miracles! actually have enough room on the flash drive to save them prior to the burning process. That's taken about eight hours and I still haven't burnt the first DVD yet.

It's gonna be a long night.

:rose:, Glynndah. So sorry, it's so frustrating when you're all set and the stupid computer gets tired and lies down.

Cup of coffee in Naked, if you want to pass the time with a chat while the programmes make up and start speaking to each other. Smack their noses! LOL.

Ouch. Could have used a cloud to do much of that, or a Daemon drive to store the pictures and then burn them. But setting all that up would probably have consumed as much time as you've already spent.

Have patience. Good luck. It's for the kids, so it's worth it. ;)

I'm not even going to start about the printer which seems to have suddenly hit the equivalent of puberty, slammed the door hard enough to rattle the windows and is now refusing to acknowledge any computer in the house as "the boss of me".

You have your own drive?!? Way cool.

It's finally moving right along. I've burned enough for the teachers tonight and the ones for the staff can wait another day. Oh, yeah. I suppose I should have played the first one before I kept on going.

This weekend's project: Cut and paste a picture of our retiring secretary into various "tourist-y" spots {she said she wanted to travel when she retires} using yet another photo program; make another much shorter movie with the addition of a soundtrack; and have it all ready to show on the big screen at Monday's morning assembly.

Of course, since we're honoring her on Friday with a surprise parade {she will be the grand marshall, riding in the fire truck ~ I do hope there'll be a siren involved} through the village, accompanied by about two hundred students, teachers and staff and possibly a television crew, there's a pretty good chance my little movie will be quite anti-climatic.

ROLF! that's it. Printers are just like teenagers. The ink costs a fortune and they always stop working just when you most want them to be on their best behaviour. They spit things back out at you disgustingly chewed up, and get blocked requiring highly expensive treatment. So much to look forward to!

I guess you have gone for some well deserved shut-eye now. Hope the machines stop sulking and behave for you soon. (And please please let us know how that fabulous parade and film show go. The film show is a real personal touch, I'm sure she will highly value it; I jolly well would! even in competition with a whole fire truck with the siren on.)

I'll be bringing my tiara for the honoree to wear along with a big handful of Mardi Gras beads. Our local state patrol officer will be escorting the parade as it winds its way through the heart of the business district, also known as the bank, Jasper's Hardware and an abandoned cabinet shop, and then back to the school.

About half the school is going to march in the parade carrying banners while the other half stakes out various corners around the parade route with signs and balloons. After all, what fun is a parade without someone to wave to?

Believe it or not, I actually had to think about this one before I got it.

That's going to be pretty cool, Glynndah. Have fun. :)

You are so nice to do all of that work for the school. I hope they appreciate you! :rose:

I love all the fuss they are making over the secretary. Whenever ours ends up retiring (hopefully not until my kids are long gone) she would deserve the same. She totally rocks. :)
