Okay. I am going to say this one time. I am from the midwest in the US. I have lived in the US my whole life and for quite a few years in Illinois.
Now, the reason I am going through this is simple. I am very tired of getting feedback from people who assume that everyone in a certain region speaks a certain way.
Now, in particular Pittsburgh. Okay, bub, I have news for you. I have been to several states and lived in more than my fair share. I have never been to Pennsylvania, but I have heard good things. In response to you trying to correct my language, I thought I had the right to represent myself in anyway. How I speak should be the last thing on anyone's mind if I brought about my point clearly.
For some reason I keep getting flack for how I do things. Well, to all those who have a problem, I am so sorry I don't do things your way. I will try to be more considerate to you from now on.
I know that you are probably fishing for wrath and picked me to give me a hard time. That's fine, I will get over it, as will you. I was under the impression that this was for entertainment and for sexy fun. I try to be open and understanding because I am new here and I haven't been writing all that long, if my stuff hasn't clued you in on that, but don't assume that I should do things a certain way because of where I am from or where you are from or whatever the hell you think I or you are from.
I am originally from Arkansas and I can tell you I don't drink moonshine and say ya'll every two seconds. But thank you, Pittsburgh for letting me know that we as society haven't overcome our regional stereotypes.
Before I get hate mail for this, I want to make sure that anyone who reads this knows where I am coming from. I can take criticism, but not the kind where the critic thinks I have no idea. I do. More than I would like.
But, forget it. I had to rant a bit to get it out of my system. I am good now, so please, conduct your business as usual. Thanks for listening.

Are you referring to dialogue or to narration? Dialogue style is certainly your own business, but traditional narration is formal rather than conversational.:)

General statement

I was referring to dialogue, mostly. I get a lot of flack for that.
i am surprised I got a response. I wasn't really expecting one, but thanks for being interested enough to ask!

People who tend to point out the small little details about stories do get very annoying, especially when they decide that they want to get loud and obnoxious about what they have to say. They remind me a lot of the comic book store owner on the Simpsons, the morbidly obese 30 something guy who things he's such a bad ass because he knows how to speak three different dialects of Klingon, knows the value of any comic book in existence, and has the amazing power to find even the slightest flaw in any kind of movie, TV show, comic book, whatever.

Whenever someone like that comes along, I think of them as being the comic book guy, laugh, and then slug them with a fold up chair. I really think it's slugging them with the fold up chair that makes the whole thing a lot less stressful.

statement

LMFAO I will keep that in mind!! PS, I agree about the comic book guy!

hmmm....well i dont get it...what exactly did this guy/girl say?...i went and read some of ur stuff and ur actually pretty good...but what language things was the person that motivated u to write this general announcement mention as his/her beef?

mishka

people who nitpick like that are just trying to invent reasons for their own existence.

As I Pittsburgher, I apologize for whatever crass comments one of my fellow Steel City denizens made toward you. Pittsburgh is known as "The Friendly City", and we're not the type to folk to randomly insult those who like in other parts of the country.

Except for people who live in West Virginia. Man, those guys are WACK!

Actually, the Pittsburgh accent is, to my ear, one of the harshest and least melodic in the English language. When I would come home after spending a few months at Penn State and watch the evening news interview one of my fellow citizens and hear words like "Dahntahn" and "yinz"...cringe city. We actually SOUND like that?
