This morning I woke up much earlier than I planned or wanted to. Its my day off after all. I woke up at 0500 and couldn't fall back asleep.

I wandered out into the kitchen and started the coffee pot going as my wife wandered out after me. It seems we both had the same problem. We poured some coffee and carried it out onto the patio where we sat and drank it.

After a bit we started our showers. I took mine first then the wife took hers. As she took hers I carried yet another cup of coffee out to the patio and sat there watching the stars. It was clear and fairly calm and traffic was almost non existant. I had an idea. When my wife came out from her shower I told her what I was thinking and she agreed.

She grabbed my leather as I grabbed a heavy jean jacket and put my leather vest over it. We locked up the place and grabbed our helmets before heading out to the bike. I fired it up in the dark and wheeled it around the cars before having my wife climb aboard. Off we went.

I putted down the main road a short distance before turning north on some back roads I know. Max speed was between 30 and 35 MPH and my wife soon relaxed into the ride. After plenty of twists and turns we hit another main road. I asked my wife how she was doing and could hear the smile in her voice as she told me she was having fun. Hearing this I headed south on this main road. Once again traffic wasn't there.

We were maybe 20 miles north of where we lived when I noticed the clouds ahead of us. These clouds were strobing with lightning. I watched them as we tooled south and before long I knew we wouldn't make it home before the storm hit us. I started looking for a place to pull off. At the next light I spotted the welcome sign of a Denny's up ahead. I told my wife we would be pulling off there and when she asked why I just pointed at the oncoming clouds.

I pulled into the empty parking lot and pulled the bike up under an overhang from the roof. We were right next to the windows but I didn't care. Off the bike we pulled off our helmets as the wind started kicking up. It was blowing past and around the building. I could smell rain as we walked to the door.

Stepping inside we were greeted by the one waitress on duty. She seemed nervous as she seated us and offered us coffee which we accepted gladly. We placed our orders, including a bottle of hot sauce for me. By the time the food was delivered the sky opened up. It was pouring out heavy enough you couldn't see the road through the windows. My wife and I sat there enjoying our breakfast and were joined by the waitress. (We were the only ones in there.) By the time we had finished our second cups of coffee the rain had stopped again. I paid out tab, ($12.00) and left a nice little tip, ($10.00) before we grabbed our helmets and went back out to the bike.

I used a rag from the cargo box to dry the seat, fired up the bike and off we went. The rest of the ride was for the most parrt relaxing. (For the most part because I still truly dislike the pierced steel decking they use on bridges.)

All in all it was a fun ride this morning and we had a good time.

That sounds like a great time. When summer finally gets here maybe I can do the same.

It was indeed a fun ride and we both enjoyed it.

This afternoon it was cool and calm so I once again fired up the bike. The wife decided to stay at home as she was doing her nails, for the fifth time, in preperation for a party this evening.

On this ride everything was smooth including my shifting and braking. One thing that was driven home once again was how much more you notice and are exposed to as you ride.

On my ride north I must have been behind a car with a pipe smoker in it. All I could smell, albeit faintly, for a couple of miles was Cherry Pipe Tobacco. It smelled kind of nice. On the ride south along the coast I could smell the salt water and every now and then a faint whiff of Coconut Oil. Then I ran into a stretch of road that wound between the beach and a Cypress Swamp. (Yes I could smell the Cyprus Swamp.)

All in all though another fun ride.

I saw a bike cutting through lanes and doing wheelies today. I was actually hoping to see him embedded in the concrete divider up ahead. He was the type of person that gives bikers the moniker of suicidal. Total idiot.

Unfortunately I see that a lot down here. I call them Organ Donors or Darwinists.

Last week we had one convicted of Motor Vehicle Manslaughter. It seems this young man had gone for a ride with his G/F on the back of his bike. He was wearing Leathers and a Helmet but she wasn't. He got into a race with another rider on a main road and ended up piling into the back of a car. Both he and his G/F were thrown over the car. She died on the scene and he spent something like a week in the Hospital. According to the Police, the witnesses and the Cameras at the intersection the accident took place he was traveling in excess of 100 MPH.

Man, that's awful. Now he'll have to live with it. Sorry for the girl and her family. :(

Yes I too feel sorry for the girl and especially her family.

As for him I do not feel sorry for him in any way. He made his choices. (If this seems harsh then so be it. He didn't have his G/F wear a helmet or leathers. {She died from Head Trauma.} He chose to race on a main road with a passenger on the back of his bike.)

I don't think it's harsh, I think in the same terms.
