Is there a problem using brand names in the story? I have a story that takes place in a Subway (as in Jarrad, the sandwhich place.) I suppose I could make it generic, but so many people understand how subway works ...

Secondly, I'm getting brave. Almost getting to the editor part, at least with two stories. I see a lot of people posting in this forum ... ISO Editor type of email. And yet there are list of peeps available, so that you can contact them directly. Which way is better?

Thanks in advance!

IMHO, you're better to post a request here when the time will come for you to get an editor. Nothing wrong with the editor's list apart from the fact that it's not working. Too many people still have their name on that list but don't edit anymore. Plenty of writers complain that they don't get replies when they contact editors that way etc...etc...etc...

It is ok to use brand names and store names in fiction. It is done all the time - their names are not "sacred" words, you may use them as you wish - as long as you are not using them in advertising or as a proper name or product name.

When using the editor's list - look at the date they most recently edited their editor profile - this gives you an idea of which ones are active.

If active editors would simply edit their profile every other month - the inactive editors would quickly be identified and moved to the back of the list.

LadyC and kbate have all my love and respect. I do what I can to help where I can. I selfishly admit, heavy sigh, that I'm working on my own stories. But I will set aside my own projects to assist writers who want to express their inner desire to express themselves in words.
