A few for the strippers

I have a few questions for anyone who is/was a stripper.

What made you start? Did you get addicted (to the money)? How long did your dancing career last? Did you have a S/O? If so, how did they feel about it? How did you pick out the club? What was it like the first time?

My husband is taking me to my first strip club Saturday and I was just curious. I'm sure I'll have more questions, but this is all I can think of right now.

I'm sure you'll have a good time--women customers tend to get a lot more attention at clubs than guys;) . Most strippers I've talked to are in their jobs just to make some money, and yes, they are often able to leave it behind them...but a lot depends on the club environment.

What made you start?
The promise of two hundred dollars an hour was what made me start. That seemed like a fortune to my twenty-year-old eyes.

Did you get addicted (to the money)?
No. The money was nice, but after you deduct for costumes and all that it really isn't all that much money. Not considering what you do to get it.

How long did your dancing career last?
Give or take a couple of maternity leaves, five years.

Did you have a S/O? If so, how did they feel about it?
When I first started I had a boyfriend whose mother had been a prostitute, and he didn't like it at all. Later on I got married, and my husband didn't mind. In fact, when I wanted to quit he had a fit.

How did you pick out the club?
I didn't start in a club. I was too young to get into clubs here on the west coast. I worked for an agency that I found in the want ads.

What was it like the first time?
It wasn't a big deal. I had been cocktail waitressing in a club on the east coast for months before that, so I had seen it done and was somewhat desensitized. The first time I did it myself my assignment was to wrestle a guy. I kicked his ass, but it was pretty creepy. By the time I was old enough to get on stage it didn't seem like a big deal at all.

To add to the above questions, can we get any tips from anyone whose danced professionally?

I've known of a few strippers personally & they've struck me as totally normal people with a job.

They've all said the money's been pretty good but I'd hardly say any of them are "addicted" to the cash. The ones I knew needed cash to get through school; they knew their time dancing was temporary as was their figures & looks. At least the ones I knew were realistic and had long term goals beyond the strip clubs.
