I've heard they are thinking of replacing Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, and replacing him with a female.
I heartily approve of removing him, as he was a miserable thieving son of a bitch, and I hate him.
There are a couple of reasons for this animosity.
First and foremost was his stealing from widows, orphans and war veterans. It worked like this: Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury after the Revolutionary War. War Bonds had been used to help pay for the war. There was a question about how the new government was going to repay the bonds. Dollar for dollar, at a discount, or just stiff everyone. The decision was made to fully redeem the bonds at face value. But Hamilton kept this a secret, just informing some of his cronies. Who then went around buying bonds from war widows, orphans and veterans at pennies on the dollar. They made monstrous profits from this insider information.
Another reason is that Hamilton did not want a democracy, he wanted the U.S. to become a hereditary monarchy, with Washington as the first King.
So I am all in favor of taking the son of a bitch off the ten-dollar bill.
But the proposal to put a female on there then raises the question of who?
I realize this calls for a poll, but until I know what names to put on a poll, I wouldn't be able to set it up. So I am asking for names to be submitted, with some brief explanation as to why.
Just because of the way the world worked at the time of the Revolutionary War, there aren't many candidates from that time, because women were, like many others, second class citizens. There were no female Generals or politicians that I can think of.
In fact, the only female from that time period that comes to mind is Betsy Ross, who's reputation is mostly based on a myth, I think.
Moving up to the War of 1812, Dolly Madison comes to mind, for saving so many pieces of art from the White House before the British burned it down.
I can't think of any from the Civil War. There must be some, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. Some nurse?
Using more modern people to go on the bill kind of bothers me, as the most recent people currently on any paper money are Lincoln and Grant. Having people from the current era on the bill doesn't work for me, as their reputations have not withstood "the test of time", or benefited from the perspective that time tends to give.
And I expect that there are actually people out there who would advocate using a picture of Kim Kardashian's ass. We live in a time of low-lifes.
I've got two suggestions of my own, one serious, and one tongue-in-cheek:
Seriously, I would vote for the Statue of Liberty. She is a symbol of America, is widely known and recognized, and has withstood the test of time.
Otherwise, I go with Bo Derek. It is the "10" dollar bill we are talking about. 8)
