So stupid question but from getting a glance at the forums here I've noticed some snobbery (sorry but its true) from many of the readers of LE. Some saying there's no character developement/plot/etc. Which Is important to me as a writter/reader ...in a non-sexual story but honestly I read erotica to get off. (Scandelous, I know right?)

Anyway, Say I wanted to write out a fantasy of mine and post it. Just the fantasy (detailed out of course). No real plot or character development or any of that stuff of literary greatness. Now here's the thing, If I posted that would anyone read it? Honestly my goal is to make someone just as hot and raring to go as I feel when I read your stories.

So I guess what my question is, do I have to have some freaking novel with plot and character or can I just instead craft a well-written piece that makes you wet or hard without getting flames for it?

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: first off, it depends on where you post. If you go straight for "Erotic Couplings", people won't be as complainy, because the whole point of that category is getting off. Almost anywhere else, though, the door opens for plot & characterization to come in, so you're at risk of the flames.

Also, the reason we complain about lack of characterization is not because we're snobs (well, not just because we're snobs; you're completely right, we are), but because characterization makes sex better. Emotions make sex better. Pure stroke is like an extreme close-up in a porn video: "is that a penis or an elbow?" This is not to say that it won't or can't arouse, but sometimes it's better to take a step back and stop being overloaded. Furthermore, emotional content can help with the arousal. When you put your arms around your wife / girlfriend / sig.other / whatever and hold her tight, you get a hard-on. Why? It's not just the physical proximity, or men would sprout any time they hugged anyone. It's also partially because you care about this person. Likewise, writing a story where The Reader's emotions get involved gives you two roads to the erection-maker, and thus twice as many chances to achieve your goal.

Obviously, I'm a very girly sort of man, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt. But that's where I stand on it. (Also, that'll help you get a perspective on how women look at it. :)) Best of luck with your story!

Sure, no problem.

No one should flame you for writing any well-crafted piece. There are thousands of stories on LIt that are one piece strokers with no character development and they do great and get great ratings.

When I see people bitch about character development, though, generally it is in a longer piece that can become (or is) a series or start of a story arc. Sometimes you have to look at the story they are bitching about. Did the main character go through a transformation of sorts and there's still no development?

Generally speaking the posters, editors, and critiquers (not a real work, I know but I'm sick :p.) here are here to read and comment and develop other people's stories. So they're a little critical. They need to be.

But yes, by all means, write a one-off stroke story (no pun intended, seriously). Make it well written and you'll get great ratings. If you're feeling ballsy, throw it up for critique. If you do though, and someone complains about character development....

Wow. I have had a very similar fantasy (being the master) but you somehow made it even better.

I really enjoyed it and would love to read more of what goes through your dirty mind.

I have a feeling I'll be thinking about and re-reading your story for at least a few days.

Hmmm, don't know how I missed this when you first posted it. The answer is No. This Web site has a full range of reader interest. You'll have readers for a piece like you describe, and that's all the justification you need to post it. And all is fine if you don't expect everyone to be interested in it. Not something I'm interested in reading, though.
