Has anyone been watching either of those shows?

'Family Plot' is about working at a mortuary. There are four people from one family there - one was engaged to the owner or something. I've found myself watching it the last few weeks. It's reality but no one gets booted or buried in this case.

The other show is 'Intervention'. Wow! It is about addiction - two people are featured each week (different addictions) and they are 'followed'. They've agreed to go public but don't know there will be an intervention. It is quite a show. Real life - tough but touching too.

Didn't know if anyone else was watching.

Have seen ads for both. I wanted to watch Intervention, but decided against it. Reminds me of what I was beginning to go through with my niece last year. Wounds still open for me.

Hi Cate :)

I've seen both shows and can't say that I really like either one. I'm not too big on reality shows. I just can't get into them for some reason.

They are both interesting concepts for shows, though.

Hi Cathleen

I have followed "Family Plots" since their last season. I find it fascinating, funny and sometimes touching.

"Intervention" started recently, and while I feel it's very tough viewing, it exposes many situations that a lot of folks are unfamiliar with, yet offers hope to those who might be suffering with similiar problems. (I have an alcoholic uncle who was "intervened", and has, fortunately, been sober now for over 20 years.)

I think A&E is a fascinating channel to begin with, and find their shows presented much more tastefully than some other channels present important issues.

:rose:

bumping this since it was moved from the PG to the HT Cafe.

I been watching "Family Plots" since the beginning, I think it's pretty funny. Intervention is interesting also. I'm addicted to "Survivor. My wife loves "Dog the bounty hunter" lol I don't get that one.

They both sound interesting.

Unfortunately for me, if they're not on Nickelodeon, I probably don't watch them. :)

Family Plot I saw yesturday for the first time, and it was hilarious. I loved watching that show. I have a thing for death, so it was interesting.

spoken like a true parent.

i don't watch either of them either... though "intervention" did sound interesting.

is it just me or is A&E neither artistic nor entertaining for the last couple of years? i used to practically live on that channel but it seemed to kinda fizzle out. don't get me wrong. i'm sure these shows are very good... i'm just thinking in general terms.

Maybe not artistic but I do usually find their shows entertaining.

Family Plots will not show you the actual services or burials out of respect for the departed and their families. They are usually funny but the hardest show they made to watch was the one where an infant had died. They showed you the reaction of the staff.

Interventions is highly interesting because they don't just do drugs and alcohol. They deal with people with all kinds of addiction including gambling and shopping.

Hi Cate! :rose:

I watch Family Plot, but I've never seen Intervention. I like F.P. because it focuses on the personalities, rather than what they do.

I'm not a huge fan of the scripted reality shows, like Survivor, but I do enjoy the shows like FP and Airline, and that oldie but goodie, Cops.

(Hey Cate, how's life? :) )

Did anyone see the intervention about the gambling guy? What a whiner!
I think I would have smacked him!

It is a good show - addiction effect so many. We can become addicted to anything. As soon as the focus of our attention and behaviors become unhealthy, physically and emotionally, the addiction is created.

It is a tough way to live.

Hi BG!! :rose:

I like FP too - those personalities are quite interesting. lol

I LOVE Airline too!!! Damn the world is full of us crazy folks - laughing.

btw - you were exactly right about 7pm last night - knock that off, it's spooky. I'll call later, I have to head to Mass Gen for that test. I am definitely taking the afternoon off .... these weeks have been so tough. I hope you're feeling ok???? :rose:

Gee, Ravin, would never have thought you'd find death interesting.... shall I call you Edgar? lol

I do far better with end of life issues and dying then with birth. Those little babies just scare the heck out of me. Now, a dying person - no problem, in fact I find it to be an incredibly special time that can show so much love and honesty. The experiences I've head with loved ones at the end of life have been wonderfully rich ...... very painful too but the learning is awesome.

When the pain of the loss receeds the depth of the experience is firmly planted in my heart.

Cate, that is one of the wisest, most beautiful things I've ever heard, and it's going to stick with me for a lifetime. :rose:

I've seen both shows, but lost track of what was going on with Family Plots and always have trouble catching Intervention. I don't know why, but I was shocked at how respectful and emotionally involved the FP people are in each case. It's really admirable...I couldn't do any of those jobs.

However emotional, I've liked what I've seen of Intervention. I know it's far from comprehensive, but it seems to do a good job giving a taste of the life of an addict and the effects on loved ones. I think it's often tempting to associate addiction with a bad upbringing, poverty, the people who were sort of 'destined' to become druggies, but Intervention and other shows are a good reminder it can touch anyone. The downside from my PoV is that we've become hypervigilant about drugs...people who need narcotic painkillers and other potentially addictive drugs aren't getting them, are dubbed "drugseekers," and sometimes won't take them for fear of addiction.

Yes it is. I have had some personal experience with addictions. Interventions can work. It's good to see the information getting out there.

About "Family Plots", I too was suprized at how much they cared about the familes and I quess I always thought it was just a job to them. It's good to see a human face on the industry.
I also agree with what you said about intervention. It's a complex issue.

Bumping, in case folks want to watch the programs tonight, 9pm Eastern time Family Plot and then Intervention.

Den, I can't quite describe what the hold is for me on Family Plots - it is just different in so many ways. It isn't the reality TV, but this is a real place, real people doing what they do. It's an interesting view of a family relationship as well as business. There is no question there is some dysfunction but any organization has some. The people just let it rip and are what they are.

Intervention is a very cursory look at addiction but one thing I think is great is that it clearly shows addiction isn't limited to drugs and alcohol. We can become addicted to work, sex, exercise, food, love .... on and on. I'm hoping they might get a bit more indepth but it is interesting as it too.

Enjoyed this weekend's "Family Plots" and "Intervention". (Two completely different shows, but I feel I relate personally to many of thei issues").

Wasn't that "Victoria's Secret" doggie a hoot!! :D

Hope/wish they have followups to the "Intervention" characters. Tonight was quite a downer/
