This past weekend Chicago, along with many other US cities, celebrated Gay Pride with a parade. As a part of the weekend, Nathan and a group of over 30 Christians from various Chicago churches went to demonstrate at the Gay Pride Parade with the Marin Foundation.

Their demonstration was much different, though.

While the most vocal “Christian” presence at the parade was in the form of protesters with “God Hates Fags” signs, Nathan and a team from the Marin Foundation took a different approach… they chose to apologize.

The volunteers wore black t-shirts with the phrase “I’m Sorry” on the front and held signs with messages of apology, on behalf of all Christians, for the way the church has treated the gay community.

While the ultimate message Jesus came to preach was one of love, grace and compassion, we’ve sadly misrepresented Him and alienated sons and daughters from their Father’s embrace… and I’m so excited to see how Nathan and his team took a different, humble approach and in the end, did something far more powerful than preaching or shouting… they showed love.

I like. I went to the Marin Foundation site and read more. His own story (Andrew Marin)is interesting.

They showed true love of Christ with what they did. Way to go Andrew, Nathen and the Marin Foundation and those that showed up.

There's the way to take the religion back from the haters!:rose::rose::rose:

You know that the "god hates fags" were courtesy of Westboro. Although many churches hate fags, very few will say so as bluntly.

There are on occasion milder, more PC versions of the same thing from other churches during pride parades. Sidewalk prayers to "cure" the wicked. "Save Marriage" mini rallies. Nicely dressed holier than thous politely handing out pamphlets on Levictus...

Passive agressive bigotry is sometimes worse than out-and-out asshattery, if you ask me.

I sometimes think WBC does us an enormous favor by making their stance so clear and cartoony.

The Marin Foundation and those associated with it show a commendable level of common sense and maturity demonstratedly lacking in other so-called 'Christian' churches and organizations with their messages of hate and intolerance of Gay and Lesbian persons.

Let's hope this is the start of a ongoing trend in true Christian compassion and understanding. :D

When we changed congregations, full acceptance of gay and lesbian Christians was a requirement. We found one that is busy, active and happy. We are, too.

That was a big factor for us, too. We hadn't attended church for years, but when we found out this church describes itself as a "reconciling congregation" and is fully accepting and inclusive of our GLBT brothers and sisters, it made us remember that not all people who claim the name "Christian" are full of hate, bigotry, and fear.

Gay Pride, London, 2010

An estimated 500,000 people took part in this month's event with a similar number watching:

Gay Pride Parade

2012 will be the big one.

They don't answer the question on whether homosexual acts are sinful or not. But they are def more progressive.

I find that rather strange. If you are all Christians of the same stripe, what's the problem ?

Oh come on! You live in the UK with Anglicans who can't agree whether gays should be ordained, Catholics who follow a mad pope, Welsh Methodists acclaimed for their singing, etc. Whaddya mean, all the same stripe?
