Hi All you guys

Been thinking of starting a new story and trying to come up with ideas thought I'd share them with you and see if anyone found them interesting.

1. Sometime in the not too distant future a method of travelling to another planet/alternate reality is discovered. Robotic probes are sent to test the new world and it's found to be similar to ours so an expedition is organised. Unfortunately an unforseen effect of the travel is that a person changes sex. Unable to return immediately for technical reasons the squad of now female athletic marines in badly fitting uniforms attempt to fulfil their mission and explore. The planet is of course inhabited with civilisations at an iron age/ roman level with male dominated slave owning societies.

2. A follow on from number one with a penal colony having been set up on the planet and used as a dumping ground for earth's worst terrorists, murderers and such like. A group escapes and a party is sent out to recapture them.

3.Again sometime in the future and online roleplaying games have advanced to the point of virtual reality. The players mind is transferred into a computer generated world along the lines of dungeons and dragons. A group of terrorists hack into the system and are able to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. They can only be defeated from inside so utilising a backdoor created by one of the games programmers a couple of people are able to slip inside.

4. A Dr Who fanfic, not too sure how well known Dr Who is outside the UK.

1 & 2 I had planned quite a while ago, but Fencer's prisoner on Tau Ceti Two came along which had certain similarities so I channeled my thoughts into that story instead.

Point 1 would be hard to add to, as the psychological effects of the gender-switch would either have to be dealt (demanding a higher-than-average quality of writing) or ignored (which would just be silly). It's certainly a different way of explaining why there's an all female troop of Space Marines.
Of course, if you come up with a way to work around the entire gender-bender angst thing, I think you should go for it.

Point 2 is like you said a bit too similar to TC2.

Point 3 is the most interesting one of the four, IMO. Not your standard-fantasy tale, and with an unusal amount of freedom.

Point 4 is unknown to me. And I have no idea how many Englishmen there are that frequents Chyoo and who has an interest for Dr. Who

So, I vote "yes" to point 3, and "maybe" to point 1.

This reminds me of my favorite card game, Munchkin, which has a gender-switching curse in it. Players are at -5 on their next attack, because they are distracted by their new equipment.

This kind of reminds me of Code: Lyoko, where kids playing around in a virtual-reality computer game, discover that an evil entity in the game is trying to get out into the real world. The interesting thing about this cartoon is that the 'real world' portions are normal cartoon drawings, while the VR portions are 3-D computer generated graphics. Kind of says, "The VR world is more real than the real world".

Doctor Who is pretty popular here, though probably not as much so as in the UK. Sci-Fi is playing the current episodes. I'm not sure how far behind the storyline we are.

Horribly OT, I know

Munchkin? Now that would make one funny fan-fiction story :D

It is basically a card game that emulates the worst of RPG munchkinism. As long as you can deal with the ridiculous and silly, this one's for you. I'm sure a talented writer of erotic comedy could do something with it. Just write up a twelve-year-old GMs dungeon with his hyper-caffeinated players, and add prepubescent notions about sex (not prepubescent sex).

Any takers?

Hell, I'd add to it. Munchkin's the second best card game after Illuminati as far as I'm concerned.

I had a couple ideas for the first story. There are basically two ways I'd write it.

1) have the group of marines co-ed. Creating a situation where the men become women and vice versa. That would be interesting.

OR....

2) have one female on the male dominated team. Then when the gender switch happens, she is the man. It might bring some interesting options.
