THE CONTEXT:

Group of wizards at an annual convention. Just a chance for anyone to play their favorite wizard or create one of his/her own. Please feel free to add to this thread and remember to learn from the young: play more!

Perhaps, after a few folks join in we can begin with the all important plot--maybe a dispute between wizards, or an evil presence, or something else very bad.

Denoitnem:

On my feet, I call attention over the loud chatter of my colleagues; my commanding voice stopping their speech:

"Henceforth and hereby, I declare that the six hundred twelfth annual convention of wizards will come to order and all present will kindly take their seats around this round table and prepare for introductory ceremonies.

"I, Denoitnem am your elective leader for the seventy-second year running; and I am your legal advisor for any complaints you have with our lovely magical realm.

"Now that I have had first dibs at introductions, we will begin on my left and proceed in a clockwise manner so that every wizard may introduce himself (or herself--don't worry lassie, I see you over there) to the group.

"Lets begin on my left with my good friend. Stand up and introduce yourself ol' chap."

Glaferin

Standing to my feet, and rearranging my somewhat wine soaked robes I speak.

"Hail one and all kin-folk, I am Glaferin at your service. Thank you by the way Denoitnem for the kind introduction."

"Ahem, as your Drunk and Disorderly Fun co-ordinator for the 15th year running now, I happily declare this celebration open. And the Keg's too!"

"So, enjoy one and all, and don't forget to get me a cup every so often. But before I bore you all with war stories with demons and all that sort, let the young person next to me introduce themself to us all." and I gesture with an unsteady sweep of my arm to the person sitting somewhat surprised next to me.

Grilam the Black

"Someones been taking their job of testing the drinks a little to seriously,.....for the fifteenth year in a row. I know I look young, and the fact I don't show up to these much might confuse you, but I'm older than you are."

He cleared his throat. "As the leading wizard of the Darker aspects of things, and the only one to live in the mountainous northerns most commonly associated with evil,...for good reasons,...I can safely say that nothing will interupt our fun, for at least another hour..."

Grilam turned to the wizard beside him. "Don't scowl like that. Your face will stick that way. It's your turn."

DENOITNEM:

I look at the dark one with a grimmace. "Do be nice, Grilam," I say matter-of-factly, "you'll scare off our guests. Now, speaking of guests, here is another friend of mine. Do stand up and introduce yourself for the group: as they might not know you as I do."

OOC:

I have a question: there are three of us, should we commence the meeting, or should I deflate my ego a little and realize that this was a bad idea?

OOC: Start the meeting, acting like the others have already introduced themselves. It alows us to move onward, and let others join in later.

Denoitnem:

"Now that everyone is properly introduced, we should begin. I will remind you that I am getting old and that these gray hairs are for memories forgotten. Therefore, if I forget your names, please do try to forgive.

"Anyway: the first order of business is to hear the report of the border patrols. Of course, since we don't have borders and our magic spans everywhere, I suppose we can skip that." I twirl the long hairs of my beard as I try to remember what is the next order of business.

"Oh of course!" My sudden revelation shocks many around the table. "Sorry! We must now discuss the economic side of life. So now, I call our treasurer, umm..., to announce to us the funds we have in the Magical Treasury... umm.... Who is the treasurer? I seem to have forgotten."

OOC: everyone still welcome

OOC: Just a note, as the GrandMage said: we have merely skipped some intros. If you want a part, please, find a home.

Glaferin

I watched as my much esteemed colleague and friend struggled to remember the name of this years treasurer. And to be damned in all thirty hells, I couldn't either. Sighing I stood...

"Tis alright buddy! (I said slapping him heartily on the back.) All I know is who ever it is that is the treasurer did me a good turn by leaving so much money for the wine!" at this I laughed and handed my friend a cup of good october mead.

Grilam the Black

He looked around, and settled back in his chair. The good thing about being a Wizard was the chairs were always comfortable. "Oh, come on. I didn't bother to get out of my tower and wander across lands filled with monsters and country yokels so that I could hear the treasurer's report! Although, I am interested in learning how much funds will be going into this years Tournament of Magic...but that's not really important. What is important is what we plan on doing about...."

He shifted, looking around the table at the assembled masters of the magicial arts. He sighed, and looked around the room they were in before staring at the tabletop once more. "On second thought, let's go on with the treasurer's report...."

Denoitnem:

I am confused, "Perhaps my memory is cluttered with spells and incantations; I cannot fathom what you are speaking of my dear friend. Oh yes, Grilam is it? Could you remind me of what is so dire that it needs to come before a treasury report?"

I push back the dunce-cap of a cover that I am wearing and lean back into my chair, gulping some of the blush wine. "Well, Grilam?"

Grilam the Black

He looked around the table, and pulled out a small, hand-sized orb that seemed to be made of a mix between pearl and silver. He started to toss it between his hands. "Well, the reason you can't remember is because I haven't been reporting on it. You all know I live in the Northern lands, which is mostly inhabited by the monsters we sent there so long ago to keep them from terrorizing the more civilized races of the Great Alliance. As the leading Dark Wizard oif the Council, it's my duty to watch over them, and I've been noticing something odd...."

He glanced around, and then concentrated on theorb. "Some of them, the ones that should be enemies, are starting to gather together....And the border attacks I spend most of my time deflecting have started to stop...I think that something, or someone, may be massing these creatures together...to form an Army."

He looked around the table at his fellow Wizards. "Seperate, we drove them into the Northens...But together? I'm starting to worry..."

Denoitnem:

"Ho hum!" I wonder aloud, "That is serious. If I remember correctly, we haven't worried about monsters in ages: not since humans started making technological breakthroughs in the late nineteenth century."

I pull off my tall head-cover and make it disappear into the air. The slight amusement makes me giggle and I forget why I had been so worried. "I'm sure that whatever the problem is, it will vanish," I remark happily. "Like my hat," I add giggling again.

Denoitnem:

"Oh my!" The irridescent shapes dancing in front of my eyes stop suddenly as I cast a mild spell. The alcohol in my system suddenly turns to water and I am free from the bonds of stupidity. "I do apologize for my cheer, now lets talk about this problem that you have suggested."

Grilam the Black

He gripped the orb hard in his right hand, and sunk down in his seat. This, of course, was why, even though he studied and practied the Dark Arts, he never fought against the others, and they let him study what was most commonly defined as the 'evil' magics.

He simply couldn't bring himself to confront them, or be the center of attention. "No. Really. I'm sure it's nothing..."

"I do hate to pull rank, my dark friend; but, I am your leader (elected or not). As your leader, you must entertain my suggestions. I do suggest that you tell us what problems we may face as magic's protector and enforcer."

Grilam the Black

He sighed, and reached up the sleeve of his midnight black robes, which so matched his eyes, and pulled out a baseball-sized crystal orb, which he threw into the center of the huge round table.

When it hit, instead of breaking, it simply disappeared, and the entire room was bathed in an illusion. Inside a ring of mountains in a land covered with snow, hidden from all human eyes. The valley of monsters. It was a large valley, and was split into four sections. One of forest, another of water, yet another was a desert setting, and the final was grasslands. A tall black tower stood out from the center of the valley.

The illusion centered in on the desert section. Hundreds of monsters, most of which were natural enemies, were gathered around something that only showed as a haze in the illusion.

Suddenly, the wizards found themselves in the familiar room, the illusion gone. "It's like that in every sector. That same haze. It's even in the mount region and the underground tunnels. They gather around once a week, and the haze appears. As of yet, I have had no sucess in finding out what it is..."

After the shocking lightshow, I am caught in thought. I look around the room hoping that someone knows of this 'haze.'

"As your leader, I command every wizard in this room to confess all knowledge of this 'haze.'" Heads shake in disbelief, yet nobody speaks.

"Okay, next week, when the haze appears, we will need to have a group investigate the occurrance. Do I have any volunteers?"

sorian

"i volenteer and of the haze i have heard that there is another dark wizard who controls it.they say he is powerful in mind tactics though this is only rumors so i know not the validity."i said as i explained what i knew of the haze.

Grilam the Black

He looked at Sorian, and nodded once. "I, too, volunteer myself."

He looked to Denoitnem. "And, as the foremost authority on the Black Magics, I may say that the haze is something that even I have never run across in my many years of research."

A New Mage

A New mage is born: Lord the Young.

Youngest wizard..fill me in b4 i start my info?

Lord: Just read the entries before yours and we're still early in the game. ;-) Feel free to shape your character at will.

To All: Just a note... none of us are invincible, that would take the fun out of it.

Denoitnen:

"Wonderful! Two volunteers already. Anyone else? I would like at least two more wizards to go to the northerns."
