A brief Summation of 2007

I was going to post this on a thread where some had questioned the assertion that one should be able to take either side of an issue and argue it effectively.

However, since the 'usual suspects' will gather nonetheless and a new thread may find new eyes and ears here and there...then...


Rather curious that one could ever set forth to 'win' or 'lose' a discussion, a point, an argument on this forum especially with those to whom there are no absolutes, no innate or self evident truths and every thing is simply a matter of relative opinion.

So, let us begin my one of my original forays into the den of the left with an assault on the joys, results and effects of militant feminism over the past half century. My thread, 'The Feminine Mistake' a parody of Betty Friedan's, 'The Feminine Mystique.'

I have asserted that the brave new independent woman has destroyed the concept of marriage and family; I have asserted that the gender muddling has turned men to men and women to women and created a homosexual community unparalleled in history. I have asserted that both men and women have been rendered psychologically fragile and have turned to prescription medications and recreational drugs as an escape from the dismal reality of their lives. And that millions of children without two parent families and no biological father in sight, have created problems that will last generations.

You have been silenced in your advocacy of the Ozone Depletion farce, proven to be cyclical and not influenced by man made chemicals. You have been thwarted on all fronts concerning the Global Warming hoax and the entire scientific community is now beginning to question the political motivations driving that particular scam.

The entire Zero Populaton Growth hysteria is now humorous as the EU in general is importing live bodies to replenish a dirth of births by natural citizens of each nation.

The failure of Socialized Medicine, National Health Care, however you wish to refer to Government sponsored medicine, has failed miserably in every country is has been experimented with.

Roe v Wade, the abortion decision is on the verge of being overturned and Gay Marriage has been rejected by a majority of US States with more expected in the next election cycle.

In other words, the entire Secular Progressive, Left Wing Liberal agenda is crumbling beneath your very feet as 2008 approaches.

What your little coven of perverts has enjoyed in the past, total domination of this forum, is a thing of the past. Were I to zip off to the promised land tomorrow, there are enough here besides me to remind you of the bankruptcy of your basic tenets, so getting rid of me is the least of your problems, many, many, will take my place and your reign is over.

I also wish to mention the 50th Anniversary thread for Ayn Rand's Novel, Atlas Shrugged that has endured long past my expectations and provided a platform for the various degrees of social democracy, command economy, socialistic posters to desperately attack the foundations of not just human individual freedom, but the free market system, the United States in general and indeed, all of western civilization from the Greeks forward. What a marvelous expose' of the hatred of the left on this forum for the individual spirit that has brought man out of the cave.

Let us add a few more failures of the left. The world wide effort by a coalition of nations against Islamic Terrorism is holding firm with Iraq and Afghanistan relatively stable for the moment regardless of the cowardly bailout policy of the left.

Homeland Security, criticized for not affording foreign terrorists the same rights as free citizens of the west, still has prevented or delayed any further attacks on American soil since 9/11.

Americans have understood, for the most part, the increased security and surveillance that has made this possible.

Energy policy, a true black eye that cannot be denied as the left has prevented energy exploration and the contstruction of new power plants, fossil and nuclear for nearly 35 years and the shortages and increase in price of fuel and energy falls fully on the shoulders of the left who hindered such construction and exploration.

Illegal immigrants: the left, influenced by the Unions, wants to unionize and gain democratic voters to the roster, surely a glorious goal, and expand government to provide medical care, driver's licenses and housing for millions of people who crossd the border illegally while million more await legal processes to become citizens of the US. Go figure.

While McVeigh's parents divorced when he was 10, they were staunch conservatives -- so that should've mitigated his trauma. It's all a matter of balance, after all.

If this is going to be a political recap, you should also mention that the congressional approval rating hasn't beaten the presidential approval rating in months. Which is especially bad since the presidential approval rating hasn't been north of 35% for a long time.

The last dozen polls I've seen had the disapproval rating near 70% for congress, leaving only 20% or sometimes less approving the job, and the rest undecided.

There is also the mortgage crisis. Having just bought a place after the news of the crisis was widespread, I'll tell you that the fallout is going to be widespreading. They didn't ask for a rectal probe, but I don't think that's long in coming.

Actually, I did post a little snippet of a story a few weeks ago, first one in a very long time. But I posted it as a 'Romance' or 'First Time' category submission and the idiots that decide such things changed it to 'Celbrities' and the first vote it got was a '!' and it rather disappointed me.

I resubmitted it and asked them to change the category or delete it and all I got back was a rejection of the second submission.

I am still fuming about that.

Where are the mentions of Africa particularly Darfur and Zimbabwe; the problems of the Gaza Strip; the continuing tension between Turkey and the Kurds; flood disasters in Bangladesh unfortunately endemic to that country; the continuing difficulties in Burma; the election in Russia; the continuing problems in former USSR countries ending in ...stan; and the death of Luciano Pavarotti? - just to cover a few topics he ignored.

None of my extended list has any left or right bias. It is just a list of some of the things relevant in 2007 that Amicus omitted. There are thousands more topics that have more significance in the world than Amicus' views on women.

I'm reluctant to post in a thread that launches with such a gratuituously hostile post. Now that I'm here, though, a couple comments.

One day Roe vs. Wade will be overturned because it's bad law. When that happens abortion will be banned in a few states, restricted to a greater or lesser extent in more states, and have no limitation whatsoever in several states. This is called federalism, and it's the way America is supposed to work.

Repealing Roe will reduce a source of "artificial extremism" that skews American politics. GOP primary candidates for state legislatures will think twice about declaring themselves "pro-life" (and gaining the support of Right to Life activists who skew those contests to the right), because voters will know that they are "shooting with real bullets" now - they actually can make the thing a crime - and moderate or libertarian-oriented GOP voters will look for alternatives. (Right now GOP pols pay no similar price for their pro-life position, because Roe means they have no authority to really act on it.)

Planned Parenthood will enjoy new fundraising letter opportunities and will become a bit of a travel agent - as they were before Roe. Bottom line: Little will change, and hardly anyone will notice.

A prediction: Most states that enthusiatically banned homosexual marriage in a wave of demagoguery and opportunistic political exploitation will become increasingly embarrassed by the ban. It will be hard to repeal in most states, though. But this cheap political game has had it's day and probably no new states will adopt the ban. Just the opposite - some will begin to legislate homosexual marriage (not impose it through counter-productive judicial fiat). These states will become magnets for a highly productive and generally affluent population segment, and the marriage-ban states will suffer from that.

Not sure what "affirm the consequent" means, but I suspect it's what I was saying your post amounted to. Which to the extent it did I'm sure that was sarcasm, that most dangerous of rhetorical devices (to which in my weakness I resort too readily, and get burned for too frequently).

In any event, the tone of the OP invited the use of such devices.

They can't, but tough. Federalism is a two-edged sword. The pro-lifers want to curtail it with a constitutional amendment, and the pro-choicers with Roe. They're both wrong, and most Americans are ambivalent about the issue.

That said, if you believe that abortion is murder then it's completely legitimate to want it to be illegal. Many people do think this - a majority in some states - and Roe creates the politically toxic "artificial extremism" I described in my previous post. I believe that the damage this causes to our democracy and our politics outweighs the unfortunate effect of women in some states having to travel to get an abortion when Roe is repealed. Sorry, but given that I just can't whomp up much passion when the real slogan should be, "Keep abortion convenient."

(This position is guaranteed to see me spat on by activists on both sides. Oh well.)
