Our carport is a stand alone structure a short ways from my trailer. It isn't small in that it is 12 feet deep by at least thirty feet long. (It's long enough to park five cars under and have room to open the doors.) The roof is a ribbed one with ribs every 12 inches. It is covered with all kinds of debris from the local trees and hasn't been cleaned off or cared for in at least two years. It is also slanted slightly, the front is 12 feet off the ground while the rear is ten feet. The gutter than hangs off the back came down last winter.

The carport leaks and the rain runs off all sides. It's a mess and I was getting tired of it. This morning I decided enough was enough and I started working on it.

I went up on the roof and cleaned it off. I filled a box full of Lawn and Leaf Bags with all of the debris up there. (Pine Needles, Leaves, Tree Branches, Trash people had thrown up there, a dead Moscovy Duck etc.) We're talking the debris was six plus inches thick. I am honestly surprised the roof didn't come down. I filled 20 bags.

When I was done with that I rehung the gutter. This is a two part afair. I hung it using rivets every three inches as well as top straps every couple of feet. By the time I was done the roof had been cleared and re-sealed and the gutter wasn't coming down any time soon. I was happy with the results even though it should have been the park doing the work.

Now comes the fun part. You wouldn't believe the number of complaints I received for my work. The complaints ranged from the greedy, (One of the people who lives in the park does roof and gutter work. He has been trying for the past couple of years to get the contract to do this kind of work without success. He complained that I was taking his work away from him.) to the lazy, (Why aren't you working on my Carport?) to the just plain strange. (It's not right that you are out there working in just a pair of shorts and shoes without a shirt. It's disgusting that your wife is out there helping you wearing a pair of shorts and a Bikini Top. How dare you force your wife to do manual labor?)

Oh well, the work is done and I'm happy with it. My parking area will no longer leak. Tomorrow I'm going to be out there and sweep out, scrape out my parking area. I know there's pavement under there somewhere.
