I'm sure we've all heard the Michael Martin Murphy song titled "Wild Fire"

The melody and words are haunting, and even if you read the words as his tenor voice croon them out for you over the speaker it seems they carry a different meaning to each listener.

The image that comes to my mind is great passion, unrequited love and the sad parting of lovers with a promise made that carries them both through time to meet once again.

I'd like to write that picture into a story, if a Lady out there can see some of that same scenes in her mind and would join me?

Running horses over a grassy plain, slowly turning white as the first heavy snow falls...a woman running blindly in search of something she can't quite reach....a man kneeling over a freshly dug grave, his tears allowing the grass that wouldn't grow before to rise from the earth...

The goddess of fate looking down from above and so touched by the scene below she grants the man one wish....time flashes forward, to a grassy knoll where two ancient graves lie marked by one stone....a young woman sitting side saddle and asking her gray haired father what the inscription means...

The ancient hostler taking his hat off in the mid day sun to look at the blue eyed girl and tell her a story she would never forget....

Years later the full grown woman returns to that spot, her father now gone and leaving her alone....her spirit drawn to the graves and perhaps the story her father told with such passion...the sound of a horse whinnying in the far mountains coming to her ears as her fingers caress the words cut deeply in the marble face...
