My home town

It's been pretty steady rain for the last two weeks, but today dawned just beatiful, tho it's starting to cloud up a tad now. This shows views from all over town and just outside it.

Enjoy.

Ooooooo!! Those are soooo purdy!! I love the APCU webcam the bestest! What a pretty campus!

Thank you Nora, I think when the clouds move off the mountains and you see them at sunset you'll just be all agog at the beauty of it. It's a shame the Fur Rondy came isn't working, but in about two weeks the dog races will be showing on it and hopefully it'll be fixed then. The cam points to the starting point.

Been to Anchorage several times. The view of Mt Denali ( Mt McKinley for the rest of the world) is awesome.

Denali is a native word meaning "Great One" which is apt, I think, for the largest moutain in N. America. McKinley never came to Alaska, and he's not a president most study in school. In fact, a lot of people don't even remember there was a President McKinley!

i wish it was the same here... pittsburgh is just snow cats and dogs right now... wish tomorrow wasn't a monday...

ah, the pic is of my home town too......

it's a frustrating ski year!....the tour is canceled....i skied at glen alps today in wind and warm temperatures.........i can't say it was good.........on the bright side, the flowers should be blooming in the rock garden soon!

That is sooo beautiful my very first love lives in fairbanks but wouldn't think of emailing and asking him for pics  thanks for sharing :nana:

Your more than welcome!

I love Alaska but, in about 19 months I'll be heading south to Oregon. This will be my thrid attempt to leave Alaska...Maybe I'm ready, maybe I'm not. I won't know til I try, but I know that Alaska will always be here waiting for me...

And yes, the snow has been disappointing, no snowboarding this spring!

Ugh

Newbie here. Saw your post and gotta say, why the heck would anyone want to move to Oregon? LOL

I used to live there (now in CA) and all it did was ever rain, I swear. Their economy bites theses days, and cost of living has shot right up (one of the reasons my folks ended up moving to CA after we did) and it doesn't sound like stuff has got much beter from what my old freinds say.

and alaska looks so pretty (not much snow though - i thought it snowed alot more there than it seems to)

Alaska

I have heard that it is dark 6 months of the year tho in Alaska so i bet that would be hard to tolerate, i'm a sun lover (one of the reasons I left Oregon for sunny CA LOL) so the idea of 6 months of dark would make me so bummed.

gotta get out on the beach, yea

That's only true for the far far North, like Barrow etc.

Alaska is 1/5th of the US, we have five times zones and one area code but yet we have this sterotype of what Alaska is like, which is why I put up the web cam site.

I saw the pics the other day, very nice. True about people getting the wrong idea about a place - my only experience is from Northern Exposure which i only found out (when i lived in oregon) wasn't even really filmed in Alaska but Washington. lol so yeah, my exposure to alaska has been kinda limited but it looks very cool, i thing the northern lights are awesome, a friend visited there last year and send me an awesome postcard of the northern lights.

I think folks tend to get the wrong impression with oregon too - i know my famly did. when we moved there it was nice and we knew there'd be some rain bc you always here about that but man it poured. i mean it's cool bc that's how come they have nice forests and all obviously but i couldn't handle that much rain. i dunno, i think oregon is overrated. lol but then, i have some pals that live there and they wouldn't live anywhere else so go figure. i like where i am now and that's all good. love the beach love it.

I Haven't been to Alaska, I really should go sometime. I flew over it once on my way to Japan. It looked cold!:D

Every state has it's pros and cons. The murder rate for my state is less than most mid sized lower 48 cities. It's always beatiful. There are still wild animals. Etc.

the town of Hyder has another area code (250).......but only because the phone system comes from Stewart, BC....just interesting trivia.....*S*

I should admit that despite my issues with the rain that Oregon has some really nice stretches of coast (Newport & Cannon Beach are just two that come to mind) and Portland had some cool things happening in summer (like the big blues festival if you are into that sort of thing).

So I don't want to appear a total jerk.. LOL

I've been to Cannon Beach, Portland, Astoria, Seaside, Salem etc but we are moving to the southern most part for a couple of reasons; one, I need a new groove and two, my daughter is an actress singer and there's not much of a market for that up here.

PS - not sure how much is happening in OR in the way of opportunity for actresses etc., - have you thought about California (we're not that much more over than OR) as there's much more going on here than back in Oregon in that part.

Astoria is nice. Not my thing (after I checked out a few movie locations that were used in a few 80's movies (Goonies, Kindergardin cop) and the coastline (which is really cool) there wasn't heaps to do in town. ((shrug)) oh well. Each to their own.

Southern Oregon is kinda dead from a business perspective from what my step-father tells me (he's from Medford tho..) bigger cityes usually have more stuff going on.

But again, i guess everyone to their own. I know what you mean by needing to change your groove. Same reason I (and then my dad and step-mom) moved to CA.

Actually it's the Medford/Ashland area we are looking at.

Within driving distance of San Fran, but still small townish, and within driving distance of my folks if trouble arises (they are in the Seattle area).

The SOU has a great drama dept and Ashland has the Shakespeare festival that tons of producers and casting agents flock to....

Am thinking of opening a drive thu expresso stand somewhere around there....

the Ashland Indie Film festival (it's in october from memory) is pretty good too if you are into that sort of thing.

you might watn to think about visitng Medford/Ashland somtime before making such a decision though to make sure it's all you have envisioned. Even checking out stuff on the net can give you an altertered perception. Its a long way to travel if it's not what you are hoping for.

Seattle is cool from what i have heard. Believe it or not, i never got to Seattle yet i lived in Oregon for several years. just kept meaning to but never did. wanted to visit pikes market too. Darn it. Have to get around to it sometime.

Medford for me is kinda dead in mho but again, i prefer where I am now and the weather i have.

We intend to go to the open house for freshmen next spring, actually. But being a pair of rolling stones, where ever we lay our hat is our home. No need to buy a farm or whatever, esp in the line of work my daughter wants to go into....Rich and Famous Singer/Actress. :D Myself, I'd rather be touring Italy. But oh well. When I find a place or a person I can't leave/live without, that's where I'll find my new home.

Gold dredging

I would like to go just once to do a little dredging for even a few small nuggets.
