Newman, a leading intellectual property law jurist, was appointed by Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to the patent law-focused Federal Circuit, which often hears major cases involving technology and pharmaceutical companies.

An order by Federal Circuit Chief Judge Kimberly Moore that was made public last month said a three-judge committee had determined that Newman may "suffer a disability that interferes with her ability to perform the responsibilities of her office," and that she had refused a medical evaluation.
now i have no idea whether or not she is still able to continue her work in a full and professional manner, but if the other judges are wrong, providing her medical records etc... would go some ways towards showing that. As it is, it comes across as though she will hang in there, regardless, intent to do so until the day she dies. There HAS to be an enforceable practise of investigation in such matters when decisions are being made that affect lives, jobs, and the economy (potentially). Has it been brought because she is a woman? I don't know. But if there's anyone else in the same position, they need to be assessed properly, too!
