All this talk of Story of O makes me interested in your opinions of 9-1/2 Weeks as well.

I read the book just as I was beginning to get involved in BDSM. I had received it as a gift from a new dominant in Portland, and decided to read it at a rest stop on my drive home. I read the entire thing at the rest stop, and just felt shattered by it.

Unfortunately, I subsequently loaned it out, and have been looking for another copy, so it's been about 8 years since I read it. But, I remember it very powerfully and fondly. I've never seen the movie, and can't imagine it could compare.

I guess I'm deprived. I never read the book or saw the movie.

LTR - this book, I believe, is out of print and that is why the expense is so high. You have a private seller selling only one copy of the book. However, there is a chance you might find this book at a larger library. From what I recall it isn't a very long book.

I've never the book, but I remember the movie very clearly. My roommate at the time had a fixation on it. When it was released on video in the mid-80s, she was renting it every week for something like 2 months. Hey, I'm not kidding! We only had one VCR, and she watched every, single night! I practically know this story by heart!

The movie was compelling, but I think it falls far short of the book. You are given a sequence of visuals that is quite erotic, but really no explanation for what is happening. You certainly are not truly aware of what is going on in Kim Basinger's head.

I would recommend renting the movie, but if you can get your hands on a copy of the book, you might do better. Problem is, finding the book!

First of all they need a little apron wearing sub boy to clean up that fuckin kitchen.
And come to find out they stole that scene where he crops her in the store from Risias man.

Cheaper Copies

Now I'm all excited - I found the book for $5.00 at www.biblion.com I can see hours of shopping for my old favorite books stretching out before me (because, even though I love this book, I am not paying $40 - $70 for it).

:D Gods, I'd forgotten all about that scene until just now. Well, at least he draws his stolen ideas from good sources. ;)

I haven't read the book, but I thought the movie was wildly exciting.

The problem with the movie is that it was not consensual in the least, so in my opinion, not d/s. Great fantasy material, but it wouldn't work irl.

~thought she would leave out the reasons for her opinion so that discussion can evolve~
