Well with all the nostalgia threads going on, I thought I would start one of my own:

I am the self proclaimed Queen of the eighties, and it feels like I could be the quiz master of all things eighties, especially the music. What are some of your favorite things from that decade?

Eve's Favorites:

Song: Peter Gabriel- In Your Eyes

Trend: Leg Warmers

Band: Duran Duran (I just knew that Simon Lebon would wait for me when I became of age. Alas, he didn't)

Cartoon: Superfriends

Show: Solid Gold (Oh come on, we're all allowed our guilty pleasures)

Dance: Break Dancing

Movie: Better Off Dead

Scandal: Jimmy Swaggert getting caught with the hooker

Hair Style: Jeri Curl

Expression: Gag me with a spoon!

Ok, your turn.

Favorite's!!!!! The whole 80's thing is my favorite. I don't have just one or two, I loved it all. Oh if I could only go back. But you did remind me about my purple leg warmers, wonder if I still have them. I think I have an outfit they would go with. LOL

Bonnie

LOL!

i've been tempted but i have RESTRAINED haha i got an email the other day that said "You know you're a child of the 80's if...." and had a list of about 25 things that an 80's child would definitly relate too haha.. i was gonna post here but decided better of it.. i know how we all hate forwards and stuff haha

just a couple of things i had to groooooan about tho haha

*layers of socks that we scrunched down around our ankles.. man we thought we were cool! haha

*wearing spandex shorts under a mini skirt or short shorts (what were my parents thinking?? haha)

*that song... 'party like it's 1999'.. we thought that was forever away.....

*the incredible hulk, transformers, knight rider (mmmm micheal knight was so fine haha)

there's so much more but i'll give everyone else a chance *grinz*

I'm still dealing with the fact that they made a TV moive about the 80s as if it were like the Victorian Age or something and we're ready for a "long, look back." Well, what the hell, fire up the Way Back Machine, Sherman, get that Flock of Seagulls out of the way and let's get totally 80s....

Big decade for me in that I moved back to NYC, started working clubs, started having a lot of sex, and started writing and producing my own plays and basically became ME.

Aside from that I pretty much hated the techno music, hated Reaganomics, hated the way movies turned into rollercoaster rides and hated all things mainstream hip-hop. CDs pissed me off (I have a LOT of albums) and don't even get me started on laserdiscs, though I've learned to embrace CDs and DVDs in the 90s and 00s.

I did like the emergence of arthouse video stores, though. I rented mucho classic films in the 80s. And, of course -- Computers. Love computers. Got my first one, a PC Junior I bought from a friend for 500 bucks, back in 85 I think. No hard disk, no mouse, no pull down menus, actuall floppy disks, and a word processing program that was half a step ahead of painting on cave walls, but I loved it. Made my bedroom feel like the Bridge of the Enterprise.

Muffs:

Song: AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long *grinz* "knocking me out with those American thighs.... heheheh"

Trend: MUD MUD MUD!!! Or was that just me?

Band: Menudo (JUST KIDDIN!)Metallica, Anthrax, & Guns n Roses

Cartoon: GI Joe (I believe I once mention a crush on Duke, It wasn't Duke, it was Flint. Whatta man. Yowza)

Show: Dukes of Hazzard!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHAAAAAAW!

Dance: Mosh Mosh Mosh, but that's never really left us...

Movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Matthew was incredibly adorable in Godzilla too)

Scandal: Ollie North, gotta love a man in uniform no matter how scrawny

Hair Style: Only one word describes the 80s hair BIG!

Expression: Uh, as if... *whiny*

Oh boy. The eighties. The decade with the worse dresscode ever.

Band: Deaf Leapard

song: Pour some sugar on me.

Dresscode: Early skater streetwear

Hairstyle: Long and in a ponytail.

Dance: Tough guys didn't dance

Movie: Can't remember, was on weed.

Scandal: Had my secret about me being a smoker, plastered all over the front page of the local newspaper, and a picture to back it up.

Expression: "Are you talking to me! I said ARE YOU TALKING TO ME ASSHOLE!!"

Where to start? Eve, I too was a child of the 80's. My teen years and that incredible period of sexual and personal exploration. It was a quite of period of teen angst and despair but it was also magical at times. The music, the clothes. In a word, Madonna! I don't think I would change much even if I had the chance.

Better Off Dead, was that the movie that had the paper boy chasing John Cusak around screaming, "I want my two dollars!"??? What a classic!

OMG!!

Okay, so I was born in 1982. This does NOT mean I missed the 80s. My friends brought that 'child of the 80's' E-mail to lunch last spring, and not only did I say yes to every single one of those questions.. One of them was 'have you ever owned a pair of jellie shoes?' And sure enough, I happened to be wearing my platform, clear sparkly jellies.

There's this picture of me in 4th grade about to go off to my first day at a new school.. Wide-cut french top-- black-- ponyskin capri pants, and those shiny black shoes that you used windex instead of polish on, you know the ones, with the big black translucent laces? Not to mention the perm. My hair was down to my knees, and I had a perm with such tight spiral curls that it shortened it to my waist. And of course, perched atop those black spirals was my black Michael Jackson hat, rakishly positioned.

I loved MC Hammer, hated New Kids on the Block. I wanted to grow up to be Mr. T when I was three. I used to make believe Debbie Gibson was my big sister. My first full sentence, thanks to my brother and his best friend, was 'We present.. The Zulu nation, and DJ.. AFRICA.. BAMBAATA!' (Tell me Rodrigo isn't the only one who remembers him?) I remember watching Bush beat Dukakis and giggling because I thought 'Dukakis' was a funny name.

To this day a part of me wishes I was older in the 80s so I could have more thoroughly enjoyed it.. But as it is, I had a damn good time that decade anyway. :)

Oh, have I made you guys feel old yet? :D

Dammit Endlessy you sure made me feel old and I'm only 23. I was just a kid myself in the 80's and maybe that's why I feel so much nostalgia about it. I guess when you're a kid, all is right with the world and everything is wonderful which is probably why I loved that decade so much. Oh goodness, I remember MR T. I even remember wishing that I was one of the singers in We Are the World. Anyone remember that movie Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo, and the Karate Kid ( Ralph Machio was about 30!) Aww, now I'm getting weepy again.

HOT LEGS!!!

Okey dokey...now we have a legitimate theme for our first amateur pics contest....I want to see the ladies of Literotica wearing their leg warmers....and only their legwarmers...Bonnie wear the purple ones for me!!

*if I get one response from this I am.....well you get the idea*

Worst dress code!!!!! No way! Spandex, leather and ripped jeans forever!!!

I will never wear khakis or "pleated" pants...rather go naked...then again that goes without saying...even though I just said it...

To hell with all the bullshit, the best of the 80's was the spikied haired drunk punx! Dead Kennedys, The Business, The Exploited, the Circle Jerks, UK Subs, GBH, and lets not forget Billy Idol and Generation X! Underground then and underground still today! Punk is still here today, but the 80's were definatly the best as far as the punk rock scene is concerned.

Oh yeah, and John Cusak kicks ass!

TIPPER!!!!!! :p

N|N I wanna fuck you like an animal popped up on the winamp while perusing the thread, reminding me suddenly of the most irritating scandal.

Remember the arrest of 2 Live Crew over Me So Horny??? And it wasn't even the uncensored version??? And the resulting senate committee hearings with Mrs. Al "Tipper" Gore presiding? A woman with absolutely no more senatorial authority than you or I?

I remember watching some of them on TV. LOOoooooOOOoooOOOooved Dee Schnieder looking like a wild assed rock n roll freak and sounding like a Rhodes Scholar. Tippy looked like she was gonna swallow her microphone in shock. John Denver was on the anti-censorship side!!

I don't mind the labels on the music saying it's got explicit lyrical content. But everything else was a McCarthyist witch hunt. I got an F cause it was my topic for my biology report instead of aschahelminthes... the earthworm.

I had a Jem doll ya know now that i think about it my mother probably still has it somewhere. Ill have to save that one for my snickerdoodle!!

did anyone else have the jem doll with the earrings that lit up? i left mine out in the rain. :(

there's way too many too pick one, so here's a few that popped into my pretty little head:

song: 99 red ballons, tainted love, cherry pie by warrant

tv show: bosom buddies, threes company(or was that 70's), facts of life

clothes: anyone heard of the store 'units'?

cartoon: smurfs

and i suppose i will admit i liked NKOTB

Scandal: Wasnt Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker having problems abuot this time??? ( I still think she looks like and ewok!)

Long hair and loud music that was the 80's.

Song- Metallica (before they became egotistical) Whiplash

Bands- Metallica , Slayer ,Voi Vod ,Napalm death and many more.

Film- Scarface

Cartoon- Battle of the planets

I try not to remember the 80's. Therapy has helped me to block them out.

I Was a Teenage DJ

I was one of those smarmy, more knowledgeable than thou college DJ's in the early 80's. I am now a smarmy, more knowledgeable than thou adult but at least I can laugh about it. The result was someone who played everything from Glenn Miller to Rip, Rig, and Panic at 2:00 am and thought I was changing the world (ha!).

Favorite Band: The Clash
Favorite Songs: That's When I Reach For My Revolver by Mission of Burma, Cynical Girl by Marshall Crenshaw, (We Don't Need No) Fascist Groove Thang by Heaven 17
Favorite Movie: Stranger Than Paradise, if only for the wonderful scenes of frozen Cleveland and Lake Erie captured forever as bleak as I remember it.
Dance: Slamming
Clothing: Bowling shirts from Goodwill.
Favorite Scandal: Iran-Contra (sure, Mr. President, the important thing is that we are reaching out to Iranian moderates with this cake and Bible. The guns are not significant and Ollie can always be counted on to tell the truth.)

The Lost Decade

What about some of the male fashions of the 80's: jazz oxfords, parachute pants, skinny ties, upturned shirt collars, yellow power ties, suspenders, sport jackets with the sleeves pushed up and those damn upturned collars again...

And more music: Culture Club, Thompson Twins, ABC, Oingo Boingo, Loverboy. Thank god somebody mentioned Afrika Bambaata...

And business as culture: Greed, yuppies, "crunching numbers," Donald Trump...

Shit, I forgot headbands. Did I really live through this?

How ironic,an 80's thread <g>. And me, I just got in from
attending a RICK SPRINGFIELD concert.... I swear !!!
