CD,
Not to worry. I don't know what your chronological age is but, speaking for myself, I have reached the point where 8-minute miles are perfectly acceptable. Running four miles in 32 minutes is nothing to sneeze at.

Age... Date.. Distance (miles).. Time (Minutes).. Speed (MPH) Rate (MM:SS/Mile)
29... 10/4/81............... 5.0........ 31.33.. 9.6.. 6:16
29... 11/1/81............... 9.3........ 64.70.. 8.6.. 6:57
29... 11/30/81............. 26.2...... 201.62.. 7.8.. 7:41
30... 5/30/82............... 6.2........ 44.08.. 8.4.. 7:07
30... 9/26/82............... 6.2........ 44.10.. 8.4.. 7:07
30... 10/24/82............. 8.0........ 52.62.. 9.1.. 6:35
33... 9/2/85................ 6.2........ 43.93.. 8.5.. 7:05
40... 10/4/92............... 5.0........ 41.02.. 7.3.. 8:12
54... 8/22/06............... 4.0........ 37.92.. 6.3.. 9:29

54... 9/9/06................ 4.0........ 34.72.. 6.9.. 8:41
55... 6/5/07................ 4.0........ 32.55.. 7.4.. 8:08
55... 6/24/07.. .............4.0........ 32.38.. 7.4.. 8:06

Well, I'm 34... and I only went about 3.5 miles.

I have never run more than a mile, and I have never done it in less than ten minutes. So I have no idea what you are complaining about ;)

I wasn't always plump around the middle. I was quite thin in school. I didn't grow the belly until I was in my mid twenties. I still wasn't ever athletic in my youth, though.

I wuld be happy if I could run a 20 minute mile. The hip and knees can not take the pounding from running, damn arthritus. But there was a time when I was a young buck I could run.

Heh working on that here, got diagnosed with cartilage issues last December, courtesy of running on anti-skid and steel decks.

Age: Distance: Time:
17 1.0mi 6min
23 1.5mi 10min
26 1.5mi 13min

Heh, though at the age of 23 I actually took it a bit easy on that run, didn't want to overload in the first half. -shrugs- That was, admittedly when I was best off, due to running 5mi every other day

You're running.

Many marvelous health benefits.

Who cares how fast?

Besides, most women like men (or ducks) who last a long time.

:rose:

8 minute mile sounds good to me - I take about 10 minutes to do a kilometre

Yeah, I remember when I could walk, not run or jog, a mile in under 10 minutes. Now I'm hard pressed to walk a mile in 45 minutes.

If you have trouble with your knees/ankles/hips, then tr walking instead of runnng. Walking is much lower impact than running and CAN provide good exercise. If you want to get results out of walking, you need to concentrate on walking, take full strides, swing your arms and walk at least a half hour.

If you don't have a half hour, try a stair stepper. No impact and a straight uphill program can give you a lot of exercise in 15 minutes.

Treadmill for me since I have major outdoor allergies.
Or I will be back on it once the doctor gives me the okay again.

Be thankful you can run/walk at all.

* thinks about giving away a decade of bad karma to any who complains about that*
