8 for 8

Awesome. The mom is great. :D

I noted elsewhere that Michelangelo would have loved the male swimmers' bodies. Today I heard that the scultor who did idealized figures for the 1984 games used a water polo guy as his model.

True. And those sculptures are still in front of the L.A. Coloseum. It was never revealed, though, who the woman was. But Dara Torres would be perfect.

I'd like a penny of every dollar he makes on endorsements. :D

He's only 22. Damn. What an athlete.

I think I read he got a million dollar bonus for medal number seven from Speedo.
Can't imagine what this one earned him.

I kinda wonder what happens to the kid when the Olympics are over. What do you do with the rest of your life when you've peaked at 22?

Given his age, physical condition and advances in sport medicine; he'll be competing in his 50's.

Which is the new 30 from what I hear. ;)

It was cool to watch.

And his mom is so excited.

It's just such an amazing part of history.

She's probably excited for two reasons...

1. Her son just set an Olympic record winning 8 gold medals

and...

2. Her son just made a $1,000,000 dollar bonus from his sponsor, Speedo.

There's still London. He's not over the hill. Not going for eight again, but we'll still get to enjoy him.

I love the way he credits his teammates. Dude is almost too good to be true. Dara also rocked, showing the world that we over forty-types are not so washed up.

Makes me wonder if he will follow Dara's example? :D
That would be something to look forward to for a long time! :D

I remember watching Spitz do his run at 7 :D

It felt like it was almost a foregone conclusion. Not in a bad way, just that it was his time, his moment, it was gonna happen. Glad he did it... pretty amazing thing to show the grandkids ;)

Take over Spitz's dental practice when he retires.

So, how much do we wanna bet that he's going to do a poster to match this famous one that Mark Spitz did?

(I always did love that nicely placed stripe of stars there...)

The difference in their physiques is remarkable. Phelps looks like a . . . gorilla? Is that right? Anyway, Spitz was lithe and slender. Phelps is about power!

You forgot to mention the difference in the hair. Gotta love that hair style...and the mustache ;)

Right! Can't swim with mustaches these days, the drag slows you down. :D You do know that swimmers shave all over, don't you?
