750 word project

Still hot after 60 votes, though only barely. It appears one ceaseless sex scene is hotter than killing off most of humanity. Who would’ve thought?

Edit: enough puffing it up here and it has fallen under 4.5 :D It was fun while it lasted.

I just read it and it's still over 4.5. I did my part to help keep it there. Thas was a satisfying, clever, sexy tale.

I've published 7 of these stories in 3 years so far, including one this morning, and never come close to 4.5. My overall average, not including 750 word stories, is over 4.6, but my average for these stories is 4.1, so a full half point lower. I still feel like it's a worthwhile exercise, though, and a good return on investment of time and effort.

This morning's little Loving Wives story is currently sitting at about 3.8, which makes it my second-lowest rated story ever, after only my other Loving Wives story. I'm eager to see the comments come in later today. I plan to throw caution to the wind and publish another full-blown unapologetic hot wife story in Loving Wives this summer.

Anyway, good job on the story.

I just read your story on the Super Bowl Halftime Show. There are several redundancies in it which detract and could be eliminated to allow more words for other descriptions. She's "hot", in a "hot French maid outfit", and later in a "hot ... little French maid outfit". But over all a good story, which might have fared better in "Erotic Couplings" or "Exhibition", since she's not really shared at this time.

Thanks. I'm not surprised. That was one of my more hastily composed stories.

I put it in Loving Wives because I figured that's where it would get the most views and attention, notwithstanding that the score was likely to be lower, and on that basis it seems to be the correct decision. The comments haven't come in yet, and I expect to get criticism on my category choice.

Thanks! I don't think it's much of a story, though. It's basically just a sex scene.

I've restricted myself to one of these shorties per year. It's a fun exercise and I find them easy to write, but the longer ones are more to my liking personally and that's what I want to fill my catalog with.

I'll definitely read yours, and if not all the others then at least most of them, once the list comes out. I like reading these as well as writing these. It's like a fast introduction to a variety of ideas.

Here is how I roll. I had an idea for a story just after submissions closed last year. I wrote a rough draft, and saved it for this year. When the new challenge was announced, I pulled it out, looked at it and figured I would just need an hour or so to polish and proof it, and it would be good to go.

I still barely got it in on time.

The Blowjob at the End of the World

How long does this run for? I'm fooling around with a short erotic horror piece I'm trying to whittle down to be 750 and still coherent.

Okay, just saw Tarneshed Penny's post so too late.

Maybe I'll just post it as a regular story

If you hadn't, you could have just had one ready really, really early for next year. :sneaky:
True. But it went up this morning and I am most pleased.

A question for the others submitting here. I write in Word, copy-and-paste to the submission page. It was 750 words in Word. The site's word count was 750, precisely. Having been posted, it now shows as 753. What gives? Might hyphenated words count once in one part of the site but twice in another?

Don't sweat it. The Word program count is fine, and this is just your exercise. Does it perhaps have a three-word title? Mine went over 750 words because they have slugs at the top explaining that are part of a 750-word exercise. That clause isn't counted in the exercise wordage.

No. Two-word title. I did include the 'This is my entry for..." bit, but I counted those words, too.

I'm getting the impression that 750 is more of a guideline than a concrete requirement. This was the first time I'd tried it and so long as the story isn't going to get culled for being the wrong count, it's all good. Thanks.

Good to get that impression. The contests here are for fun and togetherness. There's no gatekeeping going on adherence to much of anything. If the readers choose to call anything out, that's by their choice not because there's any adherence to hard-and-fast rules on much of anything.

Got it. Still, I chewed off a lip working to make it precisely 750. Live and learn.

All of mine are precisely 750 words (by the Word count) too. That's what the exercise was. I wouldn't have bothered with the exercise if I didn't want to hit it exactly by my system's count.
