I would like to do a story about the gods of the Greek Pantheon, with a twist.

Zeus has decided that the gods need to relearn and reconnect with earthly life by living among the mortals while hiding their own divine nature. By his order, they will live as youthful college students as part of the university’s first coed “fraternity”.

While they all must obey, they do so with varying degrees of enthusiasm, not all of them wish to give up the comforts of Olympus for classes, homework and college sports. However, some will like the idea of being surrounded youth, activity and novel situations. Whether a god participates with zest or churlishness is up to the writer although the choice should be justified by the deity’s nature.

If enough of the gods are filled, the story could be opened to include mortal students and teachers.

If anyone has any interest or questions please feel free to post them on them on this thread.

The Olympian Gods and Goddesses

In Greek mythology, twelve gods and goddesses ruled the universe from atop Greece's Mount Olympus. These Olympians had come to power after their leader, Zeus, overthrew his father, Kronos, leader of the Titans. All the Olympians are related to one another.

The some of the gods seem to easily fall into human archetypes, either by nature or design. If anyone has any interest or questions please feel free to post them on them on this thread or pm me.

Zeus- The most powerful of all, he was god of the sky and the king of Olympus. His temper affected the weather, and he threw thunderbolts when he was unhappy. He was married to Hera but had many other lovers. (The "Big Man")

Hera - (ArdentAngel) The goddess of marriage and the queen of Olympus. She was Zeus's wife and sister; many myths tell of how she sought revenge when Zeus betrayed her with his lovers. (The "Mean Girl")

Poseidon - (taken by JollyMon) The god of the sea. He was the most powerful god except for his brother, Zeus. He lived in a beautiful palace under the sea and caused earthquakes when he was in a temper. (The "Jock")

Hades – (taken by Third Magnus) The king of the dead. He lived in the underworld, the heavily guarded land where he ruled over the dead. He was the brother of Zeus and the husband of his niece Persephone, Demeter’s daughter, whom he kidnapped. (The "Goth")

Aphrodite - (taken by seirrahughes) The goddess of love and beauty, and the protector of sailors. She rose from the sea on a shell. Zeus married her to his son Hephaestus keep the peace. (The "cheerleader")

Apollo- (taken by light_lyric) The god of music and healing. He was also an archer, and hunted with a silver bow. Apollo was the son of Zeus and the Titan Leto, and the twin of Artemis. (The "musician")

Ares - (taken by GeekyLove)The god of war. He was both cruel and a coward. Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera, but neither of his parents liked him. He was Aphrodite’s lover. (The "Bully")

Artemis - (taken by smiley8022) The goddess of the hunt and the protector of women in childbirth. She hunted with silver arrows and loved all wild animals. Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin of Apollo. (The female "Jock")

Athena – (taken by katiebeebabe)The goddess of wisdom. She was also skilled in the art of war, and helped heroes such as Odysseus and Hercules. Athena sprang full-grown from the forehead of Zeus, and became his favorite child. (The "Brain")

Hephaestus - (taken by Light Ice)The god of fire and the forge (a furnace in which metal is heated). Although he made armor and weapons for the gods, he loved peace. He was the son of Zeus and Hera and married Aphrodite.

Hestia – (lil_geek) The goddess of the hearth (a fireplace at the center of the home). She was the most gentle of the gods. Hestia was the sister of Zeus and the oldest of the Olympians. (The "Quiet One")

Hermes - (taken by KatarHol) The messenger god, a trickster, and a friend to thieves. He was said to have invented boxing and gymnastics. He was the son of Zeus. (The "Clown")

Demeter - The goddess of the harvest. She was the sister of Zeus. Her daughter, Persephone, was forced to live with Hades each winter; at this time Demeter let no crops grow. (The "Activist")

Dionysus - The god of wine, which he invented. In ancient Greece Dionysus was honored with springtime festivals that centered on theater. Dionysus was the son of Zeus and Semele, a mortal. (The "Party Animal")

If you get enough people together I'd like to join as Hestia. Serious and quiet, maybe a bit shy, all she needs is a little help to find her "naughty" side.

Should I look for a picture or would you like a description of her?

If you'd like to use a picture, sure go ahead. I plan on including a detailed description of Hera when I open the IC thread but I have nothing against illustrations.

What's the least amount of post length you would like us to have, Angel, if you don't mind my asking?

I'd be very interested in this thread. I'd like to take Hades if that's okay

I think, in general, a paragraph or two would be nice. However, I do understand that sometimes when things are moving along, only a sentence or two is required.

I'll see if I can drum up some more players tonight and post a start-up tomorrow.

I've always had a remote interest in greek mythology, interesting twist in the story:) I think I'm gonna go ahead and snatch up Artemis.

Let's give this a go....Put me down as Poseidon. Maybe his mortal ID will be the captain of the swim team, or maybe a diver.

I was interested in playing Zeus, but I think there are too many gods in a roleplay that mixes them with college students.

(Admitedly, it is difficult to settle for college students when you might want to incinerate them with a well placed thunderbolt.)

I'd like to join as Nike...lesser goddess of victory and triumph. She'd be an ultra athlete and my version of her would also be a lesbian...or exploring her attraction to human females with great abandon anyway...

The role of Nike can be yours to take in any direction you like.

Welcome aboard.

Want to join

I would like to join your game - new to this - I would like to play the goddess Iris. Please let me know if that is ok.

In keeping with Hephaestus' outcast status in Greek Mythology I've taken the liberty of having him live in a Frat House, having pledged there while the others took up their residence.

His frat is holding a party.

I'd be interested in playing a mortal college girl. She'd be the the University's star artist. She was also the second best on the swimming team, with a deep seated rivalry with the best. Now that Nike has surpassed both her and her rival, she is striving even harder to beat her rival, hopefully with some coaching from Nike.
