Besides the clothes I was wearing? Assuming there was food to be had, and there was no chance of leaving the island for that 1 year (no rescue items necessary).

1) Assuming the island has little or no fresh water (it is a desert island after all) and is in an ocean, I would take a desalinator. If the island has fresh water and it is not susceptible to salt water contamination then I would take a good water filter like a large Katadyn.

2) I would take a combination spear/knife blade point http://www.coldsteel.com/bushman.gif with a good straight length of some floatable but strong wood spear shaft http://www.coldsteel.com/whitewaxwoodstaff.gif with lengths of transparent and orange florescent high strength mono fishing line, and several different diameters of paracord, wrapped around the shaft. 3) A heavy machete.

4) A med kit (heavy duty first aid kit) including plenty of sunblock (I burn easily), scissors, etc..

5) Snorkel and fins.

6) Somebody of the opposite sex to go with me - any volunteers?
