Here it is December again. This is the time when all the TV stations, newspapers and the internet start producing their "best of" or "top 10" stories of the year.
They help us reflect on the previous 365 days- the major news events, sporting championships, most fascinating people and a memorial tribute to those people in the public eye that we have lost during the year.
I love these trips down memory lane for several reasons ~ not the least of which is the fact that by December I have usually forgotten most of it! (Is that senile dementia setting in early?
Or the result of our too-busy lives pushing them out of the mainstream to make room for the more recent happenings?)
Anyway, I wondered what stories or events do you recall this year? What events had the most impact on you? Did you experience any milestones in your own life? Do you get sentimental and reflective about this sort of thing?
My memories include:
*** finding Literotica in January and becoming hooked immediately. (I am upset with myself for wasting so much time by waiting till October to start posting and meeting everyone)
*** February was a particular highlight for me when pennant fever (of a sort) hit my town when we signed Ken Griffey Jr., a long-term contract!
*** Early spring marked my best friend giving birth to an adorable baby boy and then asking me to be his Godmother.
*** During the summer I renewed a friendship with an old friend whom I hadn't seen in years.
*** Of course everyone of us remembers the fiasco that the election has become since it is STILL going on!
*** And now, in a few short weeks I will celebrate an entire 525,600 minutes (yes, a whole year) of being smoke free. I quit smoking on New Year's Eve - cold turkey.
I can't think of any sad or negative memories- although I have had my share of those in past years. But for the most part, the past 12 months have been relatively stress-free, happy and upbeat. Or maybe time is kind that way - by not letting us dwell on sadness. That is why I am always shocked when I see reminders of celebrities we have lost. Maybe I subconsciously don't want to dwell on their deaths.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories here. New jobs? Marriages; meeting a new lover; graduating college; getting a new job; winning the lottery?
