In essence, the ruling class were Americans - most of the indigeneous people were wiped out. They are not using US currency, but the history is a shared history, at least thriugh the early 1800s.

They do it to make money. Have you see the US quarters with the states on the back? I read where the government has made something like 6 billion dollars on that program from all the people who collect and hoard them. And the new gold dollar? Well, I've only gotten one of those in change.

I had completely forgotten about the gold dollar. I got one in change from the main post office in D.C. when they first came out, and I haven't seen another one since. They don't age well - the gold color turns a sickly brownish yellow after it's been handled. Has anyone else gotten one of these? Or are they all in someone's coin collection by now?WriterDom said:
