Sorry for the loss, thanks for the link. I have not delved into science fiction much (besides Orson Scott Card, with whom I had a 2 year obsession) but Lem looks like an interesting character. I will have to pick something up.

Sorry for the loss, as well. I know he was an influence to a lot of current SF writers.

Orson Scott Card's Ender books were my only serious foray into SF, too. Love Le Guin's fantasy, but her SF didn't do it for me.

Have you ever read Zena Henderson?
 
I watched Solaris a couple of weeks ago not realising Lem had written the story. I have a feeling the book would be better than the movie.

He sounds like he led a heck of a life and it doesn't surprise me that with the stifles of communication that he must have lived through that the inability of communication with aliens comes across in his work. I'll look out for his novels.
