IT'S OPEN SEASON ON COPS IN "GUN-FREE" CHICAGO

During the first seven months of the year, there were nearly 800 attacks against on-duty officers in the city of Chicago. That's an increase of 31 percent from the same period in 1996. The numbers include officers who were killed in the line of duty, as well as incidents where guns were pointed at police but not fired. In just the last couple of months, two officers have been killed, and another was critically wounded.

What's going on here? It's illegal to keep a handgun, shotgun, or rifle in Chicago without registering it with the city's Director of Revenue. If you bring a gun into the city, you have to register it within ten days. Residents of Illinois can't carry concealed handguns. Private ownership of handguns in Chicago is practically prohibited.

So how is it that all of these cops are facing guns and getting shot in "gun-free" Chicago?

Simple. The perps policemen face every day aren't going to follow draconian anti-gun laws. The law-abiding residents will. So the gun-toting predators are running wild in a city where they know they won't face armed resistance from their victims. They become bolder knowing they're in control. So it's no wonder Chicago's policemen are being attacked in record numbers.

Gun control laws don't disarm the criminals...they only disarm the people who follow the law. Just ask the beleaguered residents of Chicago.

We have minimal gun control laws in Tx...and it is legal to carry a concealed handgun here.....


Yet we still have plenty of crime.....

and plenty of crazies who kill their girlfriend,kids,family in spouts of anger.

under gun control laws....certified crazy people are NOT allowed to have guns.....

makes you wonder........

Todd, apparently you feel that this proves something about us "beleaguered residents" of Daley City.

I think it proves something, too. I think it proves the fallacy of how widespread gun ownership reduces crime.

The popular theory behind "a gun-totin' populace is a safe populace" is that criminals won't know who's packing so they'll refrain from attacks for fear of armed retribution.

If this is true, then how do you explain the 800 "attacks" on Chicago police officers? Even the dimmest of criminals knows that cops have guns. I'll bet a few of them even know that cops have, unlike the random gun-totin' citizen, actually been trained to use them and qualified on marksmanship. Yet still they attack cops, knowing full well that cops can and will shoot back and will do so most of the time with society's full backing and gratitude. Explain this to me, please.

Oh, and next time you post one of your "Ask Todd Anything" threads, remind me to ask if you know the meaning of the phrase, "hoist by your own petard."

The gun-happy states -

tend to have the highest violent crime rates. Many of them are states where the legal and penal system developed under slavery, where the local "lords" ruled over the populace in a feudal way. They love guns, love the death penalty, and have lots of crime. We just watch, agape.
