Indigo Sky and I have been working on a new idea for a chain story inspired by the recent fad of reality shows such as The Bachelor and Joe Millionaire.

The deadline to join is March 1st. Post your character description and you'll be included

Nothing is set in stone. Please object, I'm dying for opinions.

The main character is a woman who has been unlucky with love. We'll call her "Claire" for now. Claire wants to find a mate, and she is willing to try anything once. Through some major network, she has been set up with a certain number of individuals (we'll figure that out later) to choose from.

Each "contestant" gets 24 hours with Claire to try to win her over, to prove that he/she is the best for Claire. Each chapter of the chain story will be that 24 hours, from 8 AM until 8 AM - what happens while they're together, and why Claire should choose that character.

Each character will have something happen in the chapter that will be randomly chosen - we'll draw numbers or something. One character might be late for their meeting, one character might get lucky. One character might not like Claire at all. Each author will be responsible for working that event into their chapter.

The "winner" of the contest will be selected at the end of the chain stories, and a followup chapter will be written by the winners author.

Here's what I'm requiring of authors:
1) if you wish to participate, you will be responsible for writing a descripting of your character and posting it on this thread.
2) you will be responsible for writing your chapter, the 24 hrs your character spends with Claire.
3) you will need to commit to writing a final chapter if your character wins.

Discussion:
What obstacles should we include? Does anyone have more ideas for this story? I'm thinking that it'll be a lot of fun.

The Characters

Claire - A 25 year old bisexual woman from Oregon.

Claire is five foot six inches, a tad above average for a woman. She doesn’t stand out in a crowd, but once you’ve met her, you remember her. She’s not heavy, but she’s not thin. Her flesh is placed in exactly the right places, so that an eye swivels as it looks her over. Claire’s hair is chestnut brown, her eyes much the same. One might describe the eyes as “doe-like” – large and round, eating up the sights around her in a deceptively innocent way.

Her sexual experienced is about as unlimited as her sexual fetishes. Anything goes, and she’s tried almost everything once or twice. A slut, though? Not at all. She reacts to everything with vigor, but is never forward or provocative. Just open.

Claire likes a person that can cook, both in the kitchen and in the bedroom. She likes to read, especially trashy romance novels and unbelievable science fiction. They are the same, she says. Love at first sight is about as likely as flying monkeys, in her opinion. Claire hates narcissists, and can’t stand people who don’t acknowledge the world around them.

The call to the show was made on a whim, something Claire is easily prone to react to. First thoughts are usually right, she tells herself, and impulses should always be followed through. Will true love show up at her door? Probably not, but who knows. Anything can happen.

Contestants

Rachel - A 24 year old lesbian from Texas, who has traveled extensively, but is really just a very domestic and romantic girl at heart. She's not a big fan of being setup with people, and entered the contest on a dare after losing a bet with a friend.

Katherine (Kate) - 29 years old, Midwestern school teacher, loves sex but has never had a successful relationship, does have secret fantasies of being submissive, is waiting for her knight to carry her away.

Jillian - a 29 year old teacher from New Orleans. She's 5'2'', has red hair cut a la Catherine Zeta Jones in chicago, and bright green eyes. She is exclusively lesbian, and is looking for her one true love, but on her way to Ms. Right is interested in taking every detour that comes her way. She's also a gay-rights activist and does things like mentoring. An interesting mix of dreamer and cynic.

Jon - a 19 yo student, likes older women. Claire may not be "the one" but he figures if he introduces his parents and friends to older and older women, they will gradually accept that for him, someone in the 30's and possiably 40's is where he wants to be. Claire, being 5 years older, fits into that plan perfectly and who knows? They might actually click! He's hopefull, but not exactly biteing the bit hopeful.

Ben - an English reality show fan, who's seen the media frenzy and subsequent wealth of English reality show contestants (don't know whether this has happened elsewhere in the world) and is in it solely for the money. Egocentric and narcissistic, yet fairly charming and adept at hiding the real him.

Robert (Spazz) - 32 - a rock guitarist who's never really made it. He's played every gig available in Southern California and then some, but just never seems to get a break. If he can just get enough money to finish his solo album, he feels that his career will be made.

Jamal (Smoke) - A 25 year old black male who is a low-level bagman for a high-ranking drug kingpin. His somewhat boyish good looks conceal the fact that he's got a heart of stone and would turn any situation to his greatest benefit. Far from stupid, he speaks three languages and knows the ins and outs of computers as well as posessing an intimate knowledge of economics. He could easily work for any fortune 500 company if he applied himself.

Bradillise - The new creature, Bradillise, is still the most desirable looking of the contestants, male or female, and her undisclosed alien powers will certainly be called on to make sure the seduction of fair Claire exactly matches her preconceptions of how true love should be. The fact that she’s never had sex is a trifling matter, since the male body she now inhabits will know what to do instinctively. Bradillise

More Character/Game Background

The Complications

The biggest complication is that all the contestants have been offered ten thousand dollars if they are the winner. Claire is choosing the winner, but she doesn't know that they are competing for money...this should spice things up a bit, and make the contestants a little more jumpy.

In each chapter, one of these complications will be added. An obstacle that the contestant had no control over, something random happening, and we will find a way to choose which complication goes with which story at a later date.

*Car breaks down
*Contestant is late for the first meeting
*No reservation at hotel/dinner/event
*Bad directions cause the contestant to get lost (with Claire in the car)
*A storm (snowed in?)
*Old lovers show up
*Arrested for a petty reason
*Claire burns herself

Yes! Wonderful ideas! I'm in!

(I may need some help, never having seen those reality shows - get back, back stupid reality TV!!) LOL

Maybe I could approach it from the Mystery Science Theater angle?? :D

Character descriptions - post 'em as soon as you've got 'em = )

The main character description - does anyone mind if i do it? i'll wait for more than two answers before I start = )

The main character name - does anyone mind Claire? I like Claire, personally...

The gimic - should there be one? Any ideas? Maybe just 1 million if the couple decides to stay together, or a cruise they could go on?

sweetsubsarahh- Since the idea is just based on them, I don't think it'll be a tragedy that you haven't seen the shows = ) I've only seen a couple episodes.

Description is all yours if you like
Claire is just fine

Maybe if they stay together, they should get to choose what they want, something they have to pick togeher. With like some 1 million dollar budget. But that might make it fun for the final writer. To decide how they'll spend their time together.

I've seen like 38 minutes of Survivor total...we're not talking brain surgery here.
Although, I have to put a vote in for "The Amazing Race"
I was forced to watch it, and it's immediately addictive.

I think it will be fun - terrific ideas - and thank you for doing all the set up work (and indigo sky as well)

My character - Katherine (Kate), 29 years old, Midwestern school teacher, loves sex but has never had a successful relationship, does have secret fantasies of being submissive, is waiting for her knight to carry her away -

Oooh! How delicious! I do so love where this chain story idea is going!!

Oh yeah...

I like the sound of this but I'm kinda busy for the next coupla weeks. When's the closing date for entries likely to be? I am hoping to finish Rhianna this week so can make a start next week.

Also, since I'm genetically unable to take anything seriously, will anyone be really annoyed if I throw a little alternative humour into my chapter?

ax

Ohhhh darn, sweetsubsarah has beaten me to the B|DSM flavoured chapter!

Or - if she is going to do it from a Domme angle, could I do one from a Dom angle?

Single, but experinced male, takes charge of Claire .... she finds that his control is what she lacks?
Chapter could include shopping trip to buy clothes that Claire is directed to wear, a meal where he chooses for her etc etc.

Ohhhhh - done this post sorts upside down ... I'm in if you'll have me

Hey Ax,

Closing date? Don't know. If you want to be involved, please post a description of your character and I'll count you as included. I'll start my chapter as soon as I know how many contestants there will be, introducing Claire to the authors and the readers (someone has yet to object to this). That way you can start writing whenever you feel like it - order can be decided later and you could be one of the last if you need to.

Unlike "It Happened One Night" this is not a category themed story - so, if you want a B/D/S/M story too, I don't see any problem with it = )

LOL

Willow - I don't know yet which angle I want to pursue, actually! I don't think I'll know for certain until I "meet" Claire. But I'm sure we won't compete for story plot.

This chain story is going to be excellent!!!

trying to think of obstacles/events for the contestants

there needs to be at least one per contestant, so no one is left without something. please add to the list of ideas.

* Car breaks down on the way to a meal
* Contestant is late for meeting
* Claire is embarrassed to find herself being re-introduced to an Ex

Thinking of some history...

For the show.

How did it come to be?

Here's what I have:

The contest was thought up years ago, a musing of a man we’ll call ‘Al.’ The idea of putting a woman together with different people for twenty-four hours at a time and seeing if “love-at-first-sight” would come of it appealed to him, and being a television producer he told himself that one day his idea would become a profitable show. He had his idea; he had the money and the means, now all he needed was the cast.

It was easy enough for Al to put a few ads on television, pleas for contestants at the end of popular reality shows already on the air. The calls came instantly, each one more pitiful or dumb than the last. Only a few gems stuck out in his mind, and from those Al began to narrow down his choices.

Claire –

Claire’s message was short and to the point. “I’ve been waiting for love. It hasn’t shown up yet.”

This was the kind of challenge that Al’s show needed. This was just the girl for the part. Jotting her name down, he continued to listen to the messages.

Jillian's message - "If the motto of New Orleans is let the good time roll, my lifestyle is to let them roll and to roll with them."

Mike's message - "Why don't people like me ever get a chance?" *the sound of an allergic snort* "We're always left locked in our labs with our chemicals and rats, depending on the science, and aren't even seen on TV."

Everybody involved: why don't you write the message your character left on the machine?

Give me a little time to come up with a decent character and i'll jump in if you'll have me!

possible obstacles:
-horrible restaurant (lousy service, bad meals, etc.)
-no reservation at the hotel
-broken plumbing in the room
-problems with one or the other's clothing (got torn? something on it?)

Plenty enough. :) The household is just upside-down at the moment (one of the inlaws was buried yesterday) and things need a little time to settle down before i can use the gray matter.

Sounds fun and intersting I was thinking on the lines of a cross between amazing race and survivor.

The moderator or the contestant probably the moderator will pic prizes attached to each guy at the begining you'll see why in a sec...

Clair has just been left stranded with nothing and in order for her to keep the gifts she has to get rid of the guy after the 24 hour date. She gets to pick five guys and and cannot know what the gifts are untill the date with each guy. When the five chosen then they go on second dates and the winner gets to share in the prizes and gifts....

just a rough idea see what you think

:( I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm going to make March 1st the deadline for participants - all you need is a short description before the end of the month, and after that we'll see about getting a schedule up.

I'll have the obstacles and drawing figured out by then.
