neither run very well on varnish.

Amusing, but my 075 with .404 full chisel does well enough for things like that.

That's the old saw that I keep at home and use every couple of years. It did go about 5 years once without running and then, it did just fine. That 20:1 Homelite with a 16" bar just keeps on ticking. I used to run one all summer cutting survey line back when lines had to be cut.

My cabin saw is a Stihl MS 260 Pro. Damn fine for slicing the firewood out of the forest and quite light. Only a 20" bar, but that's "about" max for trees around here. It's much nicer than the Homelite with the anti-vib handle.

I just throw new gas into the Homelite and it goes. Need it occasionally to get to work when trees are down across the road.

Well, certainly not typical for this part of the country, I have felled stuff that size with it. And almost that large with my 038 Magnum.

Lumber? A good lumber yard would have it or can get it.
Log? Try placing a craigslist ad. Also call some tree service people, they might give you a call if they take down one.
