20k GM workers lose their jobs tomorrow.

Shouldn't that be 2,000 GM workers?

Yes, it should be. 2,000 and not 20,000 GM workers are losing their jobs.

Anyway, read below about the reason:

Production of the Chevy Cruze in Lordstown and Lansing Michigan will be
discontinued because consumers don't want them and don't purchase them.

General Motors will save money by discontinuing the model and move on to
other endeavors.

That is called "capitalism" and it's how you stay in business.

Why did General Motors abandon the Pontiac line of cars?

The same reason.

My sister's Accord was totaled a few months ago when she was rear ended by a 20 year old college kid who was texting and eating hot dogs. The rental they gave her was a Cruze. She said it was the most horrible thing she'd ever driven.

We bailed GM out and they're still not paying attention. It's a shame good people will lose their jobs because the company insists on building crap.
