Current News:

Changes for the scoring on Audio, Illustrated, and Non-English.

Please be aware of the changes on those these three catergories are scored.

Changes for scorecards.

Please be aware that all scorecards are to be upkept MONTHLY and not just at the end of the year.

Feel free to rabblerouse and discuss away. Insults are welcome, but in the spirit of good fun, if you please.

Best of luck to you!

I have a question. Where did those changes come from? What's the reason for them?

Due to different issues, concerns and requests of the participants from the 2004 contest these changes were done and approved before posting.

Thank you for asking and have a wonderful day.

Always, E

(chuckles) And once more the peanut Gallery is heard from.

Does it really matter to you Lauren? Your not entering this year.

So what is your point hun. Don't be officious just to be officious. Actually accomplish something.

Jo

Were these "issues, concerns and requests" discussed publicly anywhere? Who were they approved by?

In all the discussions I saw, the majority of the people participating were against these changes.

Check my last post Lauren, Your being officious for no reason, As far as I'm concerned it really doesn't matter if they were discussed. It is the moderators job to improve the contest. And she is doing as she sees fit. I understand your a moderator as well so you should know better than to question another moderator in a public forum. Plus your not in this contest so...Get off the rod you sat on and go moderate something else.

Check my last response to you.

Lauren, it does no good to "discuss" any issues concerning this contest. The unfair rule change regarding Non-English stories smack dab in the middle of the contest of 2004 proves that. Personally, I think that issue alone is a good reason to have a different moderator for the contest this year. Previously, the majority has ruled when it came to how the rules were set up. Now, it's more like a dictatorship.

Flame at will those of you who wish.

(chuckles) Your right Crim it was unfair to Velvet and any REASONABLE person would have seen that.

It was also unfair to the rest of us who were not able to take advantage of a perfectly legitimate (by the rules) opportunity.

The moderator managed to make both sides unhappy which sidelined the most prolific author in the contest.

If she is a dictator she is a good one. She was fair despite all of us and that is hard to do.

Suck it up and get over it Crim

Jo

How on earth was it unfair to Velvet?? She got away with breaking a rule and got DOUBLE points for a bunch of stories and then after the rule change continued getting a half a point a story for everything else she translated.

The only person that won with the rule change was Velvet.

You suck it up. Changing an already established rule just because one person had made the mistake of claiming points that were against the rules was WRONG. Change it for the next year's contest, fine. In the middle of an ongoing one?? Uhuh.

Say whatever you want. You're Elizabeth's friend, so of course you are going to stick up for her, no matter how wrong she was.

Oh, Please! Get Over It!

I did not break the rule. I said this before and you obviously missed that. Here are the 2004 Non-English rules:

Non-English stories: Submissions must be the original work of the entrant. Submissions that are translated versions of the original work by someone other than the entrant must have advance permission from the moderator to be eligible for the contest. Contact the moderator as directed below. English versions are not eligible for points.

1. The submissions were my (the entrant) original work.

2. The submissions were translated by me.

3. English versions are not eligible for points. I took this to mean that the ENGLISH translation of a NON-ENGLISH story was not eligible. I took an ENGLISH version and translated it to NON-ENGLISH.

Elizabetht and Laurel understood what I had done and decided that the wording of the rule did not preclude it. They made a change in the ruling and since I already had stories in the queue, I was allowed those stories.

This 'loophole' has been changed this year and I have no problems with that. It only makes things better for the contest and will really continue to separate the wheat from the chaff.

You should really quit complaining and let your writing do the talking.

Well Crim Velvet answered that better than I ever could have. And Crim just because you personally didn't like it does not mean that it was wrong.

Have fun and as my old coach used to say

"Don't fight the last point with your mouth fight the next one with your sword" (or in this case Pen)

Jo

Yeah, whatever.

The ruling had always been that you couldn't claim the same story for two different categories. The rule change benefitted you only. It screwed the rest of us. I asked that I be allowed to rescind my immunity in that category so I could take advantage of at least the new half a point rule, but my request was ignored.

Very easy for you to say get over it when the rule change allowed you to place and earn some money. No doubt if you were in my shoes, you might look at things a bit differently.

No matter how you rationalize it, it was WRONG to change the rules mid contest. I'm obviously preaching to the choir, so I'm done.

edited to add: Okay so I said I was done, but I have one more thing to say. Obviously, my writing speaks very well for itself since I won a holiday contest. And I lose nothing by standing by my beliefs. Oh.. and Josie, in case you had forgotten, it wasn't just my personal opinion, but those of the majority that posted about the non-english thing when it came up.

Ok, now I am done. No matter what else one might flame to what I've written I'm through.

Yeah, whatever.

I was the only one who did it, I guess. If anyone else did it, they would have gotten the same response that I did. That's the only thing that happened. It would have been wrong if other people did it and weren't allowed to keep their points but that was not the case, I guess. I still don't know that I was the only one. I'm just guessing.

And yes, I would have been upset BUT I would have gotten over it because I know that I could catch up in some other way. I'm a good writer and I have absolute confidence in my ability to write a good, quick story. That's what it all boils down to.

I hope that you'll use this anger to enter the contest this year and be competitive. I am an adult and this kind of pettiness makes me remember high school.

Thanks crim I had not forgotten. I just didn't care. Tantrums never have effected me much I love to hear a slave cry.

Jo

You know what? Forget it... not worth my time, even to defend myself against a personal insult.

Despite what any of you might think, like I told Elizabeth in another thread, I don't have anything personally against any of you. I think what was done was wrong but it doesn't personally make any of you bad people.

Of course, you probably all think I'm a bitch, but you're entitled to your opinion.

It does seem like it, but with so many threads with "discussion" in the title, the so called Moderator will have to eventually allow one to occur, I'm guessing. ;)

This is like the Twilight Zone. Wording of the rule? Loophope?

What about the spirit of the rule? What about the core of all the rule discussions over the past three years, at least, the reason for there to be a "English versions are not eligible for points" snuck in there?

When someone has a problem with the wording of the rule, the Moderator exists to uphold the spirit in which the rule was created, to creat a consensus amongst the participants, not to rape the rule in the ass.

Evidently, someone did have a problem with the wording of the rule and the Mod handled it. What more needs to be said?

By the way, what's a loophope?
