Dear Poets and Friends, and Friendly Poets and friends thereof, etc

I am posting this in case there is someone else who might be interested in attending the SC poetry Initiative POets' Summit here in Columbia. This is an emal I received from the assistant director and I dont think she'd mind, least I hope not. It is open to all who wish to attend and will "happen" for 2 days, admission is free and there will be lots of cool poet-type stuff goin on. I PM'd Perks, but havent heard from her, so if anyone sees her, let her know about this, okay? :heart"

Dear Good Poets!
Please mark your calendars for what is truly promising to be a gal
affair. On September the 10th and 11th, at
the Columbia Museum of Art the Initiative is hosting the first Annual
SC Poets Summit. This two day affair is free and open to the public,
and we will tempt you with readings by exciting poets, theater
performances, music, an open mic session, food, and informative panels
that address every area of writing poetry that you could possibly think
of. I am including, in the form of a single attachment, the Press
Release for this exciting event and a schedule for this two day event.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at this email
address.
I hope to see all on the 10th!
Two Loves,
One from Kwame Dawes
Executive Director and Founder
SC Poetry Initiative
TEL: 777-2230

One from Charlene Spearen
Assistant Director
SC Poetry Initiative
TEL: 777-2230
if anyone wishes to see the attachment, let me know and I will email the whole thing to you, okay?

ps, she has stated it will be a "gal" affair, I think she means a gala affair as it shoudl be open to men as well :D

And then there's the Dodge Festival, which is coming up soon. They only do it every other year, but it's a great gathering of poets. You get to see some really wonderful people read and give writing workshops.

If you're anywhere near Hillsborough, New Jersey September 30-October 3rd, this is the biggest poetry fest in North America. This year there will be eight Pulitzer-prizewinning poets reading:

Galway Kinnell (1983)
Rita Dove (1987)
Yusef Komunyakaa (1994)
Philip Levine (1995)
C.K. Williams (2000)
Stephen Dunn (2001)
Paul Muldoon (2003)
Franz Wright (2004

Lucky you! Enjoy it--I'd love to go just to see Yusef Komunyakaa, who is one of my favorites.
