2002 Poetry Award
Some of you may have seen the announcement on the main Literotica page about the upcoming 2002 author awards. Being the curious soul that I am, I pmed site co-owner Laurel to see what, if any, role we poets have in this. She was kind enough to reply promptly with the following info:
**************************************
"The 5 special categories up for consideration are not the only categories to be considered for the contest - they are simply the only categories that require nominations. There are actually 4 poetry categories - Illustrated, Audio with Text, Erotic, and Non-Erotic - whose 4 nominations will be picked from the 12 monthly nominees from last year. At the end of the month, the 4 top nominees in the categories currently posted in the Awards Forum - along with the top 4 nominees from last year in each of the story categories - will be put up for the final voting.
If the poets want to add one additional Special Category in addition to the four you already have - Illustrated, Audio with Text, Erotic, and Non-Erotic - let me know by Wednesday 1/8 and I'll add it."
**************************************
So. The winners selected from among the poetry nominees will compete, with other Literotica authors for the annual prizes. But as you see, the news here is that Laurel is, in effect, offering to add a poetry category to the competition. That is cool and exciting. Furthermore, she asking us what the category should be.
I know nothing more about this; whether a prize is associated with it, etc., but prize or no, this is an important step in recognizing the value of the wonderful poems that are submitted on this site and the community that contributes them.
First off, thank you Laurel!
Now for the special category. I'm thinking:
Most Influential Poet (i.e., the person whose poems, posts, and support of this community most influenced us in 2002)
I can think of a handful of nominees right off the top of my head. What say you poets? Agree? Disagree and have an alternate suggestion? Laurel would like our recommendation by this Wednesday, and I told her I would get back to her shortly after noon, est. Please let me know as soon as possible if you want to share your opinion (I hope you do!).
Score one for the poets!
