In this category, please nominate the story that you feel was the most literary - the one that is so well-written that it would stand alone as a literary work. Story must be currently on Literotica, and must have been submitted during the year 2002.

One nomination per person, please.

The Nineteenth Century experiences of Victoria Grace Tilden during her first encounters in Cairo, the pyrmids of Giza and the desert resort, Mena House under the influence of an ancient magical medallion that slowly eats away at her Victorian attitudes.

I would like to toot m'own horn and nominate my 20-chapter 78,000-word epic, "The Ravishing of Constance."

Does each nomination count as a vote? I'll second the nomination of Ravishing of Constance by Sabledrake.

I Nominate Rapunzel Act 1 by Tatewaki

This is an excellent re-write of a well-known fairy tale, and every time I read it I get shivers. The wording is exquisite, the story compelling.

Rapunzel Act 1

"What if he isn't here," Rowan thought to himself. "My wife may well perish before he returns to his land. He has many fine plants in his garden, not just the rapunzel. Surely he would not begrudge me just a little bit." So he scaled the wall with a limberness that surprised him. His body had been like this for almost three days, ever since he and his wife had eaten of the succulent greens from the New Lord's garden. His joints had stopped aching in the nighttime and he had more vitality than he possessed since he was in his thirties. More importantly, he knew again the insistent stirrings of lust, something he had thought extinguished years ago. Every waking moment he desired to bed his wife, though in her near catatonia he had been forced to relieve himself in other, less wholesome ways. The thought of his own wicked acts shamed him.

The cabinetmaker's feet touched the earth on the far side of the wall, making no more sound than did a moonbeam creeping across a creaky wooden floor at night. He stealthily traversed the garden until he faced the rampion bed. His hand reached out, trembling in his eagerness to collect that which would restore dear Hazel to normalcy once again.

It was not to be.

The entire garden lit up, flooding with daylight as if the sun's rays shone in this garden alone. But such was impossible. It was well past mid-night!

"Hold, thief!" A reedy female voice called out. "Who dares rape my garden?"

Talisman Ch. 6: Croix du Bois

Talisman Ch. 6: Croix du Bois by karmadog

This story about a young soldier's innocence and experience--set amid the battlefields of the First World War--is absolutely beautiful and literary. It's historically accurate to the most minute detail; it has an active, exciting plot with incredible range; and a poignantly nuanced love scene between Patrick the young soldier recovering from his wounds and Maggie, the American widow who was his nurse.

As if that isn't enough, the quality of the writing is poetic, transporting the reader to that time and place.

Here are two brief excerpts that perfectly compliment one another:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some of the men, sensing some fun, came closer to listen.
“Come on, Malveaux, you know what I’m asking. Don’t make this more difficult for me.”
“Okay, okay. I can be a father figure when I must. Well, sir, tell me, do you think she likes you? Do you think her knees get weak when she sees you? Does she put her hand to her breast at the mere thought of you? No? Well, I’ll tell you what I would do, though I am no officer. I would take her some flowers. Wait, wrong season. I would take her some wine!”
“Better still,” chimed in Duval. “Wine loosens the bloomers!”
“Yes,” continued Malveaux, “now shut up. I am instructing a young man in the ways of love. And in any case, one can tell by looking at you that you are nearly as ignorant as he. Now when you bring her the wine, you should also have a baguette and some good cheese. If you can find any, some apples or pears. With luck she will invite you in to take a meal. If, I say “if”, because you are not so pretty or of so high a rank to make this a certainty, if she lets you in, you must pour her some wine as soon as you may. If she drinks without waiting for you, take your cheese and fruits and go. But, this is where you must pay attention, if she waits for you to drink, you must immediately take her in your arms and kiss her full on the mouth.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Oh, but you have brought wine! And winter apples! Oooh and soft cheese! A feast. Come in, we’ll have a meal together.”

She gathered up the foodstuffs in her arms and looked over her shoulder at Patrick. One glance at her beautiful neck, gracefully turned to present her lovely face, and he forgot all about the front and followed her inside.

“I’ll set the table if you’ll open the wine.” She tossed him a corkscrew and Patrick set to work. The cork came out with a satisfying ’pop’ and he poured them each a glass of wine. Maggie looked at him and raised her glass.

“To my good friend, the hero!”

Patrick tipped his glass and Maggie drank from hers at the same time. Now what could this mean, he thought? Maybe I should just kiss her gently, rather than forcefully.

Patrick reached for Maggie and pulled her close. He could see the surprise in her eyes, but he kissed her anyhow. Maggie’s mouth opened to him and she flicked her tongue lightly against his lower lip. Patrick had never felt anything like it. Her tongue tasted slightly of the wine, and he could smell ether from the hospital in her hair.

I nominate whispersecret for her part in writing

"Memoirs of a lady," chapter 2.

Others were marvelous as well, but there is something very magical that happens when whispersecret takes pen to a story. She edges out the others by the whisper of her quill smiling on the story she's engrossed in.

I will second the nomination for.

Killer Muffins..Losing Pieces of You.

Nomination

I would like to nominate Master vassago and his Rose's awakening in total although some of the chapters could stand alone. WHile he pushed the envelope several times he wrote a beautiful, sensual, and thought provoking piece on the beauty and the trying times of submission. I have seldom read anything so well written.;)

Cloudbrst9, how lovely it was to read your praise and see that I was nominated. However, I believe Memoirs of a Lady, Chapter Two isn't eligible. It was posted in 2001.

Still, to use a tired cliche, it really WAS nice to be nominated. :)

It is true that Memoirs is ineligible because it was posted in 2001. However, your concluding chapter for the Talisman series ( The Talisman Chapter 9: Lucas Drake), is elgible (posted in September, 2002) and it certainly deserves consideration.

So, consider Cloudbrst9's nomination still in force, and please allow me the great pleasure of seconding it.

Sheesh, Gauch. Cloudbrst9 was nominating that particular story, not ME. He/she may not think that the Talisman tale is "genre transcending" at all. So, because it's in my genes to adhere to rules, I think your nomination is a single nomination.

We'll just leave it up to the judges, little lady.

I'd be more than happy to make the nomination on my own, but I don't want to steal Cloudbrst9's, er, thunder. :D
