You’re spot on with your assessment. I was a child of the 70’s and came of age in the 80’s. Both decades had their stars and some stinkers but the 80’s probably had the most eclectic mix of genres.Now waiiiit one cotton picking minute!!!
Yes, the 70s had some excellent music, but the 80s had a different feel. Especially in Australian music. I believe the pub rock scene (from the 70s into the 80s) produced some of THE best music ever.
But even globally, the music was great! Eclectic genres, new sound technology, the embracement of music videos (remember when MTV actually had music on TV?) led to the rise of so many brilliant bands and artists, particularly in the 2nd half of the decade. However, I will admit there were artists/bands who found fame in the 70s, who stepped it up in the 80s, so I'm happy to share those.
It’s funny as my Sirius stations revolve around Next Wave and Yacht rock radio!
