So I'm going to New York for a week.
As you can imagine I'm stupid excited as I haven't been on holiday for years.

Anyway, I've only ever watched WWE live in the UK, but I've got a ticket to see the Islanders, ill be on my own but that doesnt faze me.

However, are there any do's and don't's I should be aware of, regarding the game/New York in general?

Thanks in advance and sorry there's no tits attached to this as incentive.

Well WWE is different than hockey for 1. Not much to do on long Island especially in February/March. Bad holiday timing if you ask me

Don't show up wearing a Rangers jersey...

Be prepared to walk a distance outside in our cold weather..

Be prepared to spend alot of beer

Be prepared for shitty Islanders

But be most of all Be prepared to love hockey live

On a more serious note..how long are you staying here? And why of all things are you going to an Islanders game?

Hockey is one of many things I have planned :D but thanks for responding.

Haha I'm staying for a week. A guy I was friends with for 12 years (until recently) is an Islander fan and I thought since I'm gonnabe in his neck of the woods we could go watch the game together as a way to make peace. But I also decided that if we didn't reconnect I was going regardless :)
And I may have a thing for angry men in sports lol (jk)

Hockey fans - though maybe obnoxious toward the opposing team - are typically welcoming of newbie fans. So if you are by yourself don't be embarrassed to ask a question of someone sitting around you. Tell them it's your first ever game and they might be happy to share knowledge on rules, why a whistle is blown, etc. You are almost guaranteed to find at least one really nice and welcoming fan sitting close enough to you.

That said, the above poster is right do not wear anything with the New York Rangers logo - the Islanders fans would hate you for that. I'd avoid wearing anything from any opposing team (whether it's the team they are playing or not) in general at an Islanders game if you are by yourself.
Solid advice thank you.
I've been advised to dress warm, so won't have anything that could make me look like I'm in favour of any team, I'm not afraid to talk to strangers but I'd rather sit next to a woman and chat to her then any male counterparts just incase his wife or girlfriend thinks I'm up to no good. (That's how far my mind has gone lol).

Yes. Dress warm. Even higher up it is going to be chilly in the rink if you are not used to it. You are probably looking at temperatures around 10 celsius at the rink. Maybe a tad warmer or cooler depending on how close you are to the ice. Wear layers so you can always adjust.

Good call - there are often plenty of women at games so you should be able to find some nearby. The Islanders new arena is supposed to be great (I'm headed there right toward the end of the season for the first time - to root for the opposing team!).
Which team? (I can google)

Inside the arena can be a little chilly. But if you are driving to the game and have to park...its a decent walk from what I've been told. And right now us long Islanders are having a cold spell

Unfortunately I don't drive so I'll be busing it in. I've planned my route and Google maps is back up lol. I think any nervous energy I'll have should help keep me warm. Or there's coffee :)
