People rushing to shopping malls
looking at window Santas that wave
kids decorating trees with bright colored balls
last minute shoppers hoping to save
brightly decoured neon christmas lights
giving towns a festive cheer
warming these cold wintry nights
at this time of year
kids of all ages anticipate
a certain red suited elf's arrival
so they try to stay awake
but lose the fight for survival
as the elves that went on before
lull the children to sleep
giving Santa that much more
freedom into homes to creep
to leave all his gifts and treasure
of baubles, bangles, and toys
and practical things of untold measure
for all ages of girls and boys
who awaken at the crack of dawn
their presents to explore
with delight gazing upon
Christmas memories to adore
Christmas wreathes made of holly
candy canes hanging from the tree
all the decorations that make Christmas jolly
then why am I feeling so lonely
outside my window, the first snowflakes fall
as Mother Nature prepares to dress
for the annual Winter's Ball
decored in such loveliness
upon the wall your picture I see
looking as lovely as ever
but you're spending this Christmas away from me
and the rest of my life forever
as I sit here staring at the fire
recalling all the good times I miss
the love, the joy, the sweet desire
but most of all your Christmas kiss
all of the holiday dainties before me
I tried to array the way you did
but try as I may, they can no way be
as lovely as when you lived
I placed a cold glass of wine under the tree
in holiday memory of you
staring at it's brilliance I drift off to sleep
lonely and feeling blue
I am awakened by the warming grace
of a Christmas sun's golden fingers
dancing gently across my face
leaving a fiery presence that lingers
looking over at the glass of wine
I see that it is empty
but as I look in the mirror, what blows my mind
is a trace of your favorite lipstick on my cheek
Santa Claus called a meeting one day
and this is what he had to say
to be competitive and reduce his cost
thirty workers, jobs would be lost
because he'd spent too much money
millions more than the Easter Bunny
the cost of materials were way too high
Rudolph demanded a raise or he wouldn't fly
all the other reindeer followed suit
demanding benefits and hazardous pay to boot
the only way to avoid destruction
was a massive layoff and cost reduction
what the elves heard, they didn't like
which prompted them to go on strike
in a furious frenzy that did abound
they burned Santa Land to the ground
so if you don't receive a gift, don't cry
now you know the reason why
the elves knew Santa was full of shit
and they weren't going to stand for it
