Ever since Merry introduced me to the beauty of 100 yen shops, I've been addicted to browsing them and reading the hilarious Engrish descriptions on the products.

It's funny to note the stuff in the 100 yen shops seem much nicer than the Dollar-Store stuff here in the States.

"Potato shochu mini-packing of shochu lineup "Food placenta" of Kiyosu cherry blossoms brewing. It can enjoy peculiar sweetness to the potato and a full tasting. "

Apparently the alcohol descriptions are the best ones.

"Only a domestic plum tree is used by 100% centering on. Lovely person rot size plum wine that one truth of plum tree entered. "

They sell alcohol in 100 yen stores. That's craaazy!

"It is possible to taste it only in the wine cellar there is no smell with ..fruity.. [aji] though compares with another. It is sake that can also easily eat the female. "

Although I will say that their huge selection of Hello Kitty products is a very big redeeming feature in my opinion.

What is 100 yen? About 30 cents in USD?

Today rate is 1USD=83.38Yen (on Oanda)
That makes 100Yen= 1.20USD
I always thought the Yen was much smaller than the penny. The downsizing of the U.S. dollar?

It was about 120Yen to the Dollar until about 4 years ago.
(that would make 100Yen about 80cents. The all time high for the USD vs Yen was in the 80s when it was above 200Yen per USD).

I think that's what I remember.

How extremely odd that they have 100 yen shops in Malaysia!

I freaking love 100 yen shops. Seriously. As SD noted, the stuff is leaps and bounds above US dollar store stuff. It's obviously not really high-quality stuff, but shoot, if your bento box breaks, you get a new one. You can have a new one every month for the price of a medium-quality one elsewhere!

On Saturday, rida and I went to the biggest 100 yen shop I have seen yet, there are a lot of them, and some are big, but this was HUGE. It is now my go-to place, I think. I bought a pocket knife, a trivet, a pump bottle to pour shampoo into, a Hello Kitty kitchen sponge caddy with suction cup, smartphone-friendly gloves (technically those were 200 yen, a few items are priced higher), two gift bags, and...oh man I forget what else.

I could go there with a 10,000 yen bill, saved up solely for that store, and STILL not have enough money for all the things I want.

What the fuck, how did they get Halifax?!!?

I would like to note that Malaysian English is apparently far worse than Japanese English. My trash can may have a sticker on it saying "simply receptacle add versatility" but at least that is related to the product and makes a little sense! (One is presumably supposed to remove the sticker, but I saw it as a bonus.)

My guess is they were surprised by Halifax P.D. while stimulating the soft roller bust.

Total bonus on the trash can. Tell us about the added versatility!
