10 Things that happened in 1981

1. President Reagan is sworn into office
2. The Raiders won the Super Bowl
3. Walter Cronkite retired
4. An assassin attempted to kill President Reagan
5. The US enters a recession
5. Raiders of the Lost Arc releases kicking off one of the most beloved franchises in the world.
6. Reagan appoints Sandra Day O'Conner to the Supreme Court making history
7. Mtv is launched
8. Reagan fires air traffic controllers marking the begging of the end for unions
9. 9/11 a plane crashes into the Swing Auditorium in San Bernadino
10. Raising the minimum wage stops being a regular thing.

I might have saved that last because its kinda important when we talk about history. Prior to Reagan six years (unless I missed one) was the longest stretch between raising the minimum wage. Not once did Reagan raise the minimum wage and it took Bush a little over a year but he did raise it twice.

Clinton fucked it up with only 2 raises and in consecutive years no less. Bush II didn't fuck up, that was his plan whether I like it or not. Obama failed us but its hard to tell if that was just Repubicans dragging their feet or not, I'm not in the mood do dive into every piece of legislature over an eight year period.

Encase you're wondering maybe one of you egg heads like Lil Dix can point out even a strong correlation, much less a causation between minimum wage and inflation. It seems to happen just fine on its own. Obviously there are tons of factors but the story sold about inflation being tied directly the the wages is crap.

100% correct....the only folks pushing this are partisan Repubs trying to blemish Biden in every way possible. And here, it's mostly Bobo and his alts.

I've seen studies of the effects of raising the minimum wage at state and local levels. It neither spurs inflation, nor harms small businesses.

We've all seen the studies Peck, its just one of those things that is counter intuitive. My suspicion is that humans just have a very, very difficult time with numbers past certain context points. This is one of those look at the budget, look at this billion we're wasting and howling about, back to budget which is on a horse.

Also Mtv effectively died a few decaded back becoming almost exclusively reality tv most famously Jersey Shore. Mtv 2 happened but I dunno how they are doing. That's like asking what happened to the Discovery Channel. I could give a partial history but damned if I know.

It is intuitive that raising minimum wage would help small business, by increasing disposable income, and therefore increasing demand for goods and services at the retail level.

In general its boon for restuarants regardless of size. Head down to the bar just to burn an hour or two of income? Take a friend same or opposite sex just to hang. I know I'm a lot more likely to be walking through Wal-Mart to make little purchases for friends just cus I saw it when I can, at least mentally justify it as that's not fifteen bucks, that's one hour and like five minutes out of a 48 hour week. . .actually less than an hour if I use one of my overtime hours.
