Thought these were amusing!

10 funniest signs at Equality March 2009

Enough funny business, time to be serious. Barney Frank (openly gay Senator of Ma) said marches for gay rights were a waste of time and nothing would change unless LGBT's and supporters lobby their state senators and reps like the NRA or Pro-life groups do. Both of those groups have gotten bills and laws passed simply by lobbying.

Does he have a point? I think he does. Marches on Washington are great but Frank is right when he said they are emotional releases that put no pressure on congress. With a Dem majority, should we be putting more pressure on our elected officials with lobbying? We can play the blame game with President Obama but in reality, more pressure needs to be put on elected officials in every state, to pass gay rights laws, especially for marriage.

Thoughts?

And BTW, after reading what Frank had to say, I emailed all of my senators and reps in Oregon, stating that their support of gay rights or lack of it would impact my vote for them again when they were up for re-election. Just imagine, if we could get enough people to do that in every state?

My favorite is "We Hold These Truths to be Really Frickin Obvious" - and what a great draw to get people into the thread! ;)

I was going to say that the gay community doesn't have a unifying body like the NRA, but then again neither does the pro-life movement. That said, they have a lot of BIG general organizations - Focus on the Family, AFA, Concerned Women for America - and the gay community has...well, we have HRC. It's not enough.

We've had marches in 1979, 1987, 1993, 2000, and 2009. We still don't have equality. So yeah...marching isn't enough.

The "I'm tired of holding signs" was funny in a bittersweet sort of way...only because it was funny but sadly true.

Sadly, I think pro-lifers are too organized....hence that bullshit in Kansas of doctors being required to list and report pertinent information about each abortion they perform online, as required by the state. Lol, pro-lifers have been organized since the day men figured out the stuff that shoots out their dick makes babies. :D

And also, sadly, the HRC is not enough organization. I know there are tons of gay rights advocate groups out there but they could use more unification, more hardcore lobbying.

Striving for equality is ridiculous. Humans will never be equal unless we somehow become completely homogenous and frankly I think that would be boring as shit.

Instead we would do better to strive for equal rights and equal opportunities for everyone. That is far more sensible, practical and attainable.

Equality is a buzzword. What the gay community is striving for is equal rights (to serve in the military, to marry, to inherit, to adopt, etc).
