10 Formerly Great Teams Who Are All But Irrelevant Now

USC, #5 on that list, may start trending back upward since they somehow managed to snaggle Oklahoma's head coach, which is odd in itself; back in the day, you'd expect Oklahoma would be a step up from USC and not the other way around.

Nebraska... that is just sad. In the 90's they set the standards for excellence in college football.

Boise State, well the problem there, is they just don't have the resources to compete with schools that can pay coaches $10 million a year... and now some of these schools can even pay their PLAYERS big salaries. Lots of other teams- Central Florida, Fresno State, Northern Illinois- are in the same boat; they've had some great teams, but about the only thing that happens is as soon as they get good, someone else hires their head coach out from under them.

Not irrelevant, but shadows off their former selves.

Nottingham Forrest
Derby County
Portsmouth

Bury is irrelevant and no long exists. Buried.
